Monday's Mulling Over: Icke & Wogan

Happy birthday Sir Terry Wogan! I'll not go into detail about Sir Terry because any stray readers from the UK will know him already, and y'all in America won't care much anyway. My post about Sir Terry, from 2009, is HERE. I will, though, treat us to a couple of videos of Terry/Sir Terry interviewing the one and only David Icke. The first was aired in 1991, the second 15 years later in 2006. We're 24 years on from the former and almost 10 years on from the latter now...how does it all sound from this distance?





On the strength of these two videos, I have to admit that Icke's views aren't what I'd call too outlandish. Maybe I'm growing more eccentric myself in my (ahem) maturity!

I have to add, though, that in my view David Icke does tend to "over-egg the pudding" too often, but I guess he has to do so, in order to keep people reading his books and listening to his lectures.

So.....Happy Birthday to one of England's eccentrics:
David Icke!

Being English myself, and having natal Sun in Aquarius to boot, I claim eccentricity credentials, but fail - by miles - to match David Icke's masterful embrace of the trait.

I've posted about David Icke before, as have many other bloggers. My 2008 post is HERE, and one from 2007 by my blog-buddy R.J. Adams is HERE. Talented astrologer Jude Cowell of Stars over Washington blog wrote about Icke last year HERE - each of those posts has interesting comments from readers too.

Mr Icke goes too far, that's my overall take on his propositions. Had he chosen to be a sci-fi author he'd be world famous and very rich today. He has such fluency of ideas and expression, such wide ranging imagination and creativity. I intend no sarcasm here, this is a sincerely felt opinion.

In trying to extract some feet-on-the-ground useful kernel from Icke's writings and speeches, one has to admit there has been, in the past few years, further evidence that at the very heart of Icke's meanderings something valid lies. The thought that, as Bob D. wrote in his lyrics, "something's happening here, but we don't know what it is, do we, Mr Jones". I suspect (whether showing my innate eccentricity or not) that there are people pulling strings behind the curtain we call reality, in politics and in finance.

As R.J. Adms pointed out in his post linked above, Icke's views are not new, others had been treading a similar path long before before he set out on his. And for sure, he'll not be the last traveller in that direction.

From David Icke's natal chart, above, with data from Astrodatabank, it's not hard to see "where he's coming from". He's coming straight from Moon conjunct Uranus in Cancer - and on the midheaven angle of the chart. Moon=inner self is at its purest in home sign Cancer; Uranus = eccentric pure and simple. Neptune (creativity, illusion, delusion) in his first house of self underlines what Moon/Uranus is telling us. Had Saturn been found a few degrees closer to Neptune, calming and limiting its visions the world might have welcomed a much less less whacky author of brilliant novels.

David Icke

Astrologer Molly Hall at Molly's Astrology blog, last week wrote about David Icke -"David Icke and Heart Intelligence".

It's been a while since I've seen Icke's name mentioned. He used to be a soccer star in the UK, then a TV commentator, then, all of a sudden (or so it seemed to onlookers like myself) he "flipped his lid" and started writing books about a global elite, a reptilian bloodline of world leaders, and various conspiracy theories. This started in the early 1990s, in Britain, where his books and theories were met with almost universal derision. (See Wikipedia entry)

Molly Hall linked to a Sky TV video of David Icke speaking at a meeting in Yorkshire, UK, last week. He ran as a candidate in a by-election for the constituency's Member of Parliament. According to Wikipedia he lost his deposit (which means he was forced to withdraw because he garnered only 110 votes.)

After watching most of the almost 3 hour long video presentation linked on Molly's blog, I was pleasantly surprised that Icke has toned down his early outlandish approach. He now displays a distinctly more down to earth attitude, without, however, reversing his views about a global elite. Now, some ten to fifteen years after his initial propositions, his theories do not seem nearly as unacceptable as they used to back then.

I have looked specifically for something to explain his New Age-type mysticism and outlandish theories. I didn't have to search very hard. Moon conjunct Uranus in Cancer in 9th house, probably says most of it, Neptune and Saturn opposing Mercury adds more to the mix.

Moon represents the inner self, and conjunct weirdo planet Uranus (representing the unexpected and oft before-its-time stuff) becomes the undoubted key here. In the water sign of Cancer, home sign of the Moon there's additonal strength in this conjunction, and, when placed in 9th house which represents religious and philosophical matters the picture starts to form. Neptune/Mercury and Saturn/Mercury oppositions indicate an imaginative, creative mind, often with unrealistic aspirations, perhaps some self delusion too(Neptune), and plenty of traditionalist opposition (Saturn).

Icke's North Node of the Moon at 27 Aquarius (a sensitive point in his chart) will coincide with transiting Neptune in 2010, it'll be interesting to watch what he's doing around that time.

With regard to his global elite theory and any attached conspiracy theories, the jury is out, for me. I do believe David's heart is in the right place - he pursues what he feels the need to pursue, and for the best possible reasons. For that alone I give him a lot of credit. I'm more inclined to give him a fair hearing now, which is all he asks of his audience and readership.
