Uranus Square Pluto - Brush Stroke in a Vast Oil Painting

Our internet connection went south for a while earlier, it led to my delving into a couple of astrology books to see what the authors had to say about a matter currently claiming astrologers' attention: the square aspect (90 degree angle) now being formed between Uranus, planet of revolution & change, and Pluto planet of transformation following some kind of "clearing away". Square aspects in astrology, by the way, denote conflict and challenge.

On first thought it would seem that these two outer planets, with somewhat scary reputations, might indicate events more troublesome when in harmonious aspect, working together via - a trine (120 degrees), for instance. Could the challenge of a square lessen the likelihood of a turmoil-laden scenario the two slow-moving planets might be seen to reflect when working in tandem?

Astrologers look to history and consider what has happened in previous planetary cycles when similar aspects occurred. Using historical reference as yardstick isn't particularly reassuring though.

From Planets in Aspect by Robert Pelletier (1974)
Uranus and Pluto were in this relation from 1931 to 1934, when dramatic events stirred the world. While people were deeply preoccupied with the Depression, trying to find work and food, Hitler made his move. He effectively restored order amid the chaos in his own country and stabilized its economy, but the price paid by the people was extremely high. He enslaved them and gained domination over those willing to serve his madness.

You must be constantly alert to pay the price you will pay if you fail to respond to the danger signals of any popular movement or political development. there will always be individuals who will try to rise to power when the public is apathetic.
That's something to keep in mind - whilst also remembering that the rest of the planets are in very different positions now, in 2012, from the way they were during any previous Uranus/Pluto squares. The world has changed some too - though not nearly as much as one might wish!

The result of current astrological indicators won't be properly clear for at least a couple of decades. It's as if now we're looking, with a magnifiying glass, at a single brush-stroke in a vast oil painting. There is no way of knowing what the complete painting is all about.

Another of my books, E. Alan Meece's Horoscope for the New Millennium tells how current astro positions might play out in humans born at this time:
"Lonely rebels" 2011-2018 (Generation Z-b) (Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn; Neptune in Pisces).
This group will be similar to those born in the early 1930s. Like them, they will be confused rebels or lonely seekers in their youth. Growing up in times of crisis, they will insist on breaking free from authorities and blazing their own path, however unsure of where it might lead them. Highly visionary, in later years some of them will be able to adapt and find a powerful leadership position within society

Waxahachie Woes (or Uranus the Unexpected Strikes Again)

Why do I believe that astrology works, at least some of the time? Bitter experience.

"Some of the time" mainly involves times when the the outer planets, from Saturn outward (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) connect in their transits with a personal planet in one's natal chart....and, to a (perhaps) milder extent when, in the course of their transits they make sharp angles to personal planets.

My latest example:

Our recent trip, meant to celebrate my birthday, didn't follow exactly, or anywhere near, what we had in mind when we set out from home - for a variety of reasons. But that's not the story. We chose to stay around several interesting mid-Texas towns we'd hoped to visit during previous trips, but had missed for one reason or another. We'd intended being home by last Wednesday at latest, but didn't arrive until Sunday, yesterday.

Last Tuesday, on what should have been our last afternoon away, our car was damaged, pretty badly. My husband was forced to drive over a biggish metal/steel object lying in the road. Due to blinding late afternoon sun he didn't see the object in time to stop and warn vehicles behind. To have swerved could have caused something even worse than what happened. As it was the car lurched around, loud clanking and scraping ensued. Fortunately we were near a place where he could drive into the parking lot of a convenience store/gas station. The power steering went off just as we reached the parking area. Smoke emerged from near the steering wheel - very disconcerting!

To make a long story short (as they say) husband used our cellphone (at last - we found out why we have a cellphone!) to contact the AAA and our insurance company back in Oklahoma. They got a tow truck to us in about an hour. The truck took our car and us back the 12 or so miles to Waxahachie, the town where we had a motel room; and to a repair shop at the local Chevrolet dealership. Luckily there was also a Hertz rental office on the same lot. They were about to close, but stayed behind to sort out a rental car for us, so we could get back to our motel.

A couple of days later, when we'd hoped the car would be ready to take home, we were told the repair is going to take at least a week, maybe two, due to necessary visits by insurance inspector, ordering of parts, etc. Costs will be pretty steep - the majority, but not all, to be paid by insurance company. Damage incurred must be far more extensive than we had supposed!

Where's the astrology then?

Transiting Uranus was, and is, conjunct my husband's natal Sun. Uranus is famous for being around when the unexpected happens.

To add spice to our "adventure" I managed to pick up a stomach bug of some kind, which lasted, quite painfully, for a couple of days or more.

There's more.

Interested readers can refer to my post from last September, when Uranus was in much the same position; also to a re-run of an old post outlining my own experiences during Uranus (and other) transits some years ago:

Trouble, Trouble, Trouble Since the Day We Set Out

and

TRANSITORY ADVENTURES with Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Saturn.

As I wrote, back in September, I refuse to become paranoid about astrological transits to the extent that I allow them to interfere with life and plans. In the case of the outer planets, transits to personal planets can cover a long period of time. If something unexpected is going to happen, then it'll happen wherever one happens to be. The situation we encountered could have been much worse. Very much worse! Who knows what shape it could have taken had we stayed at home? If one has to experience an unexpectedly difficult event, this was the kind to have. Nobody was hurt, nobody else's property was affected, only our own poor, faithful 2006 Chevvy Monte Carlo, which has never once let us down. Not ever, not in the slightest way during the 4 or 5 years since we bought it, new. We've driven many thousands of miles with complete confidence.

In a week, maybe two, we shall await a call to drive the 250 or so miles back to Waxahachie, Texas in the rented car to collect our own, fully healed (we hope) vehicle.

And that's why I believe astrology works, at least in some respects. "Events such as the above happen all the time, to all kinds of people", a skeptic might respond. However, it's in the timing of such events that the touch of astrology can oft be sensed.

FRUITS OF URANUS' TRANSIT THROUGH ARIES ?

We have to wonder what new technology, inventions and discoveries, all stock-in-trade for Uranus, we'll see during the eccentric planet's transit through Aries, between now and 2018, Aries being the sign of initiative and initiation. Inventions and discoveries quite often emerge unexpectedly, signature style of Uranus.

We regularly read of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC),and the search for what's termed "the God particle". Perhaps these coming years will see fulfillment of scientists' hopes in that direction, and what might spin-off from that has to be mind-blowing. (See HERE)

There has been talk of much improved battery technology coming down the pike:
HERE and HERE are two examples.

And another, barely believable, possibility:

This painting by Sir Edward Burne-Jones, The Arming of Perseus shows sea nymphs giving Perseus a helmet which renders him invisible, the winged sandals of Hermes, along with a goatskin pouch for the head of the Medusa.
From artmagik.com

It seems that man is slowly catching up with myth. First, a few examples of the latter:
The hero Perseus went equipped with a cap of invisibility to kill Medusa.

A magic cloak, made by Alberich the dwarf, granted invisibility to Sigurd.

In German fairy tales, magical caps called tarnkappes are worn by dwarfs.
The caps can make an entire village of dwarfs invisible.

In The Twelve Dancing Princesses, the old soldier is able to follow the princesses by use of an invisibility cloak.

In The King of the Gold Mountain, the hero can sneak into the home of his treacherous wife by means of a cloak of invisibility.
Wikipedia
In real life:
From November 2011:
A University of Texas Dallas scientist is working on developing a technology that would delight Harry Potter fans everywhere--an invisibility cloak.

Ali Aliev uses carbon nanotubes--which look like pieces of thread--and then heats them up rapidly until the objects beneath them effectively disappear. You can watch the threads disappear as they are heated up in the video below. (at link)

From August 2008:
Scientists in the US say they are a step closer to developing materials that could render people invisible.

"Researchers at the University of California in Berkeley have developed a material that can bend light around 3D objects making them "disappear".
The materials do not occur naturally but have been created on a nano scale, measured in billionths of a metre. ..............................

"This is a huge step forward, a tremendous achievement," says Professor Ortwin Hess of the Advanced Technology Institute at the University of Surrey.
"It's a careful choice of the right materials and the right structuring to get this effect for the first time at these wavelengths."

There could be more immediate applications for the devices in telecommunications, Prof Hess says. What's more, they could be used to make better microscopes, allowing images of far smaller objects than conventional microscopes can see. And a genuine cloaking effect isn't far around the corner.

"In order to have the 'Harry Potter' effect, you just need to find the right materials for the visible wavelengths," says Prof Hess, "and it's absolutely thrilling to see we're on the right track."

If, and when, a cloak or any other method of bringing about invisibility, is perfected, the possibilities of its use would be mind-blowing, some too horrendous to contemplate - in warfare for example. Let's hope that Uranus holds back a little on that one!
