I have rarely had family in my life. Am glad I found your site and have you as a member of my online family. Rarely post but do stop in to read.

Anonymous/Bob ~ Hi there, Bob! Thank you for visiting and commenting. You are very welcome here to my 'online family'. It has changed over the years, and these days it has almost, but not quite, disappeared. I do think about online family members from the past though, and often look back through my archives to read their comments. Some have passed on now, others have moved along to other venues. It's always reassuring to hear of someone who does actually visit and read. :)
Rumor has it that we all go back to the same mama, but the human family seems very dysfunctional and you'd never know we're all related. Along the line of 'may you live in interesting times', I came from an interesting family and I wouldn't want to repeat the experience, yet it's who I am. Keep feeling better!

My close family was a very small circle, any beyond parents and grandparents remained mostly distant and scattered, they might well have been 'interesting' but we we were not privy to it. :)

I find these old photos haunting. Some family's history incomplete without them.
I find the pic of the father with his children quite sad. Did Mother die, perhaps in childbirth. This happened a lot out here. usually the children were scarfed up by Catholic orphanages at the urgings of the priests who stood to make money for the church out of them as the government paid for their upkeep (and endless abuse). I'm hoping this wasn't a last menento photo of the intact family.

Wisewebwoman ~ Yes - I've pondered over that one too. I've wondered if it was just a photo of the children of a family, with the oldest male in the centre - but there's really too much difference in (presumed) ages, I guess. Then I wondered if the older female on the right was the mother, but she looks too young - but then the male looks young too. I'll ask Himself tomorrow if there was any information on the back of the photo. His collection is gi-normous! Now he's preparing a painstaking history and "who's who" of cabinet card photographers.
