Bit of a Kick and Prance & A Shout Out for Lawrence Lessig

What to write about?
It's 2 January.
Wikipedia tells that it's "the 9th day of Christmas", when a lover sent
"9 ladies dancing"
to the adored.

Note: re post title: "kick and prance" is London Cockney rhyming slang for "dance".

Dancing....Terpsichore....Terpsichore - one of the nine Greek muses, in this case muse of dancing and choral music. She was daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyn - goddess of memory (from whence comes our word "mnemonic').

I was ignorant of the word Terpsichore for many years. It was in listening to Frank Sinatra's recordings that I first heard it, in the Jimmy Van Heusen/Sammy Cahn song "Come Dance with Me":
........Hey there cutes, put on your Basie boots and come dance with me
Come dance with me, what an evening for some Terpsichore
Pretty face, I know a swingin' place, come on dance with me
Romance with me on a crowded floor...............
Also, by the by, there's an asteroid bearing the name Terpsichore: See website Dancestrology where an attempt is made to discover Terpsichore the asteroid's astrological meaning.

Back to the 9th day of Christmas, 2 January, and HERE a more spiritual interpretation is put on Nine Ladies Dancing :
...the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit: 1) love, 2) joy, 3) peace, 4) patience, 5) kindness, 6) generosity, 7) faithfulness, 8) gentleness, and 9) self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23).

Back to hard reality....and something well worth a shout-out: see fellow-blogger David Macadam's post at The Oligarch Kings yesterday, 1 January: New Hampshire Rebellion.

Every effort, of whatever type, could help bring about the changes we so badly need. It won't happen quickly, it might not even happen in this decade, but every voice raised, every line of text written supporting the changes needed will drift off into the great public consciousness and build, and build until critical mass is attained.

I'll repeat the video from David's post here, but please do go read his whole piece then do whatever possible to spread the word in your own way. Thank you!

Of course, I'm in agreement regarding our American congressional corruption. The enticements our representatives receive feeds their greed and overtly belies their service to the constituents they purportedly serve.

It goes beyond that, however. Corporations and wealthy private donors now feed money into organizations that substantiate the donors' desires, typically influencing outcomes favorable to industry and politics (one in the same?), eg fracking, global warming, food additives, GMOs, etc. Some of these orgs influence human behavior through corrupted science. Here's an article about hidden donors and global warming:

The American system of government needs to become completely transparent in all manner of business for it to be of service and to truly serve the people. But, as I always state, individuals themselves are potentially corrupted by greed and avarice, particularly in the buddy system, such that it seems to be impossible to eradicate. It's difficult to find an honest person, yet alone an honest politician.

Such is the terpsichore of human life, Twilight! LOL

On a slightly good note, The NY Times and Guardian have printed editorials supportive of Edward Snowden. They don't exactly defend him 100%, but leniency is the objective of their print. I say Snowden deserves to be viewed as a hero and requires the American public's total support and exoneration of all charges.

mike ~ It's a "Danse Macabre" really, isn't it?

Corruption is ingrained into the system now, it'd take a near miracle for "We the People" to influence anything at all, as things are.

Giving up isn't (or should not be) an option. More people will have to become more aware of who the true enemy is - and it isn't "The Dems" or "The Repubs" or "The Liberals" or "The Teabaggers" - it is the Global Corporatocracy which has been allowed to reach a stanglehold.
Until enough people come to realise and accept that, and stop with this silly Left v. Right political football game, there's no hope of change.

Many more people will have to wake up. OWS did an initial good job in at least starting a conversation and opening many eyes - but nothing has arisen yet to carry that initial step forward. We've gone back to sleep, I fear.

I agree on Snowden. I hope he will be able to stay in Russia. I would not trust any government here to allow him any leniency at all - ever.
