Mr Irrepressible ? + OPEN THREAD

What was I thinking, back in 2008 when I wrote this in part of a post titled Irrepressible Leo?
It would be a shame if Mr. [Mike] Huckabee limited himself to a political talk show, or "religion-on-the-box" though. He'd also limit his audience, and I think he has a lot to offer that is neither political nor religious - just warm, wise, humorous and human. Still, it would be a start, once into the loop his irrepressible Leo could lead him elsewhere in TV-land.

From Learning Curve on the Ecliptic 25 February 2008
"The man's a natural. I wish he'd give up his current career and get himself a chat show or something similar. Something far removed from religion or politics. He's entertaining, warm and charismatic, you can't learn those qualities, they come part of your astrological package. Five Leo planets form a big part of Governor Huckabee's astro-package. He has already tried two professions suitable for a quintuple-Leo personality, one more remains: show-biz! I'd bet good money that he'd be a bigger success there
than he could ever be in the other two. "
From Learning Curve on the Ecliptic on 30 November 2007 [Chart at link]
All those Leo planets must incline him towards the public stage, be it pulpit or political platform. What would he like to hear - in his wildest dream? "Lights, camera, action!"
I wonder if anybody has noticed the likeness between Mike Huckabee and Kevin Spacey? They do share some Leo natal degrees. Spacey was born 26 July 1959, South Orange, New Jersey. His Uranus is at 15 Leo, Mike Huckabee's Jupiter is in the same Leo degree. Huckabee's Uranus is at 00 Leo, Spacey's Sun at 2 Leo. Their natal Mars are just a few degrees apart 28 Leo for Huckabee, 3 Virgo for Spacey. The likeness may be pure coincidence, but when Kevin Spacey's face flashed across the TV screen last night in a trail for a movie, I was surprised at the similarity.

Labor Day ~ & ~ A surprising admiration for....Mike Huckabee.

(The two items in the post heading are not connected!)

Labor Day, in the United States, has morphed into a 3-day weekend celebration in early September to mark the end of summer, its original purpose seems often overlooked. For a brief reminder of what it used to be - and ought still to be - or at least what it ought to be be remembered for, see HERE.

To a right-winger, unions are awful. Why do right-wingers hate unions? Because collective bargaining is the power that a worker has against the corporation. Right-wingers hate that.
-- Janeane Garofalo

Although it is true that only about 20 percent of American workers are in unions, that 20 percent sets the standards across the board in salaries, benefits and working conditions. If you are making a decent salary in a non-union company, you owe that to the unions. One thing that corporations do not do is give out money out of the goodness of their hearts.
-- Molly Ivins

Anyone who has read politically-slanted posts on this blog, or even glanced at the item above, will realise that my views lean firmly, very firmly to the left, far left of US Republicans, even considerably left of US Democrats - to democratic socialism in fact. Even so, this doesn't stop me from appreciating a good conservative/Republican politician when I notice one - infrequently enough these days, and in this country.

During the run-up to the 2008 General Election I posted three times about one such conservative: Mike Huckabee. Although his views are diametrically opposed to my own on almost every front, I can still respect him - I like the guy. Gut-feeling, I guess. He's a former Governor of the state of Arkansas, and a former Baptist preacher. He's one of the few who seems to me to embody all that's best in "a Christian". He ran his 2008 presidential campaign on a shoestring, so it would seem that he was not one of the obscenely rich corporate-assisted group. A big point in his favour.

Rather than repeating my earlier comments about former Governor Huckabee, I'll offer links to my 2008 posts about him:

What interests me, at present, is whether he will put himself forward as a candidate in 2012's presidential election. Here's a 12 noon version of his natal chart. His time of birth isn't known.

Now - is there any astrological indication that he'll be likely to run? Transits of the outer planets for 2012, as they relate to his natal chart, might offer a clue. These will be as follows, from January to early November when the election will take place.

Saturn 28 Libra to 3 Scorpio (includes a retrograde period April to June 27 - 22 degrees Libra)
Uranus 0 Aries to 5 Aries (Retrograde period July to December around the 4 - 8 degree marks.)
Neptune 28 Aquarius to 0 Pisces (Retrograde period from June to November 3 to 0 degrees Pisces)
Pluto 7 Capricorn to 7 Capricorn (Retrograde from April to September 9 to 7 degrees Capricorn)

Transiting Saturn will be hanging around natal Neptune but will also be in helpful sextile to most of his cluster of personal planets in Leo

Transiting Uranus in early Aries will be in harmonious trine to its natal position, 00 Leo.

Transiting Neptune in late Aquarius and 00 Pisces will oppose natal Sun/Venus/Mars.

Transiting Pluto - nothing too significant unless in relating to the angles, ascendant, midheaven etc. These cannot be calculate without an accurate time of birth.

Hmmmmm.....Neptune (natal and transiting) is providing something of "a fly in the ointment". It'll be dealing with a transit of restrictive Saturn natally, and opposing Huckabee's most significant natal planets in transit.

How to translate the above? Neptune has been a feature of political life for some time now. Neptune is known for fogginess, deception, illusion, delusion - but also for creativity. In opposition to his personal planets....that might be a positive indication - his Sun/Venus/Mars working to clear the fog of delusion in politics?

Saturn transiting his natal Neptune might put a restriction on his creative enterprises - his TV show, his music, etc.

I'm not sure what to make of transiting Uranus in harmony with natal Uranus - but whatever the indication it has to signify opportunity for change.

As I see it, there's no clear indication here that Huckabee will run in the General election, but I feel certain that if not, he'll be playing a prominent part in the proceedings, one way or another. His Leo bits will demand it!

Any other interpretations are welcome, via comments.

Irrepressible Leo

I thought so!

From New York Times 4 March:

"Mike Huckabee’s Next Stage: Television?"
By Brian Stelter
How does “The Mike Huckabee Show” sound?
As Mr. Huckabee’s campaign plotted a concession speech on Tuesday, some analysts suggested that viewers would see the longshot Republican presidential candidate on television again very soon.
On the MSNBC program “Morning Joe,” the Republican strategist Mike Murphy predicted Mr. Huckabee would “suspend his campaign, hire excellent agents, and begin negotiations for a cable TV talk show, all within the next 10 days.”
“We’ve got a chair here he could fill,” the co-host "

"Later in the day on MSNBC, the anchor Contessa Brewer joked that the jovial Mr. Huckabee could join the cast of the VH1 pop culture show “Best Week Ever.”
“I’ve got a feeling the call’s already going out,” the “Best Week Ever” contributor Chuck Nice responded.

It would be a shame if Mr. Huckabee limited himself to a political talk show, or "religion-on-the-box" though. He'd also limit his audience, and I think he has a lot to offer that is neither political nor religious - just warm, wise, humorous and human. Mike Huckabee's Leo & SNL

The more I see Mike Huckabee on TV, the more I warm to him - not his politics (perish the thought), nor his religion, just his personality. He's real. Know what I mean?

I wrote a blog about him (here) earlier in the presidential campaign. Since then I've seen him interviewed, listened to his speeches and watched his reaction to winning and losing after primaries, with growing appreciation.

Governor Huckabee's latest appearance, in Saturday Night Live at the weekend was fun. The man's a natural. I wish he'd give up his current career and get himself a chat show or something similar. Something far removed from religion or politics. He's entertaining, warm and charismatic, you can't learn those qualities, they come part of your astrological package. "There's a greater chance that I would dye my hair green and get tattoos all over my body and do a rock tour with Amy Winehouse than there is that I would run for the Senate, so let me put that to rest."

"And the ultimate thing is, I may not be the expert that some people are on foreign policy, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night."

PS: Speaking of Saturday Night Live, I'm not passing this opportunity to re-air Saturday night's opening skit. It's not the part featuring Governor Huckabee, but it provided some unexpected and refreshing spoofing of the media's current intoxication with a Senator. At last, somebody noticed!

Mike Huckabee

So far, I've been ignoring the Republican presidential candidates in this blog. Today I'm going to redress the balance, and, as I'm not an astrologer, I don't need to remain objective - I can be as partisan as I choose.

I'm not impressed by any of the Republican hopefuls, their opinions are directly opposite to my own in every area. I find it almost impossible to believe that they are being serious when they state their views on any topic.

I hear titters from the back of the room as I angrily pound the keys. A warning from HeWhoKnows, who can tell from the rhythm of my fingers that I am not pleased.

"You'll get nasty comments!"

"I can cope", I reply.

Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas, is a Baptist preacher, plays bass for a rock group and told Matt Taibbi, a writer for "Rolling Stone", that he has "jammed with the likes of Percy Sledge and Grand Funk Railroad, and how he prefers John Entwistle to Flea's slap-and-pop style of bass-playing."

Mike Taibbi's article for "Rolling Stone" is well worth reading. He defines Huckabee as "The latest It Girl of the Republican presidential race".

There has been a mini surge by Republican voters towards Huckabee recently, and he has even tugged at the heart strings of a few middle-of-the-road Democrats. It's all down to his rather more compassionate veneer, something lacking in other conservative candidates. He's smiley, witty and is not quite as charismatically challenged as his colleagues. He appears to have feeling for the poor and under privileged and actually does try to follow his own church teachings - but only up to a point. His views on abortion, gay marriage and immigration leave a lot (everything in fact) to be desired.

He doesn't believe in evolution. Could a man who doesn't believe in evolution ever be President of the United States? Would he be any worse than the current incumbent? Probably not, come to think of it!

Born 24 August 1955, Hope Arkansas. I can find no record of Mike Huckabee's birth time on-line, so this is a chart for 12 noon on his date of birth.

Uranus, Jupiter, Pluto, Mars and Venus all in Leo - a hot quintet cooled down by Sun and Mercury in Virgo.

All those Leo planets must incline him towards the public stage, be it pulpit or political platform. What would he like to hear - in his wildest dream? "Lights, camera, action!" Virgo Sun and Mercury are solid and sensible, nitpicking and critical, they probably find it hard to get along with his Leo-driven alter ego. I would like to know his time of birth to discover where this cluster of planets falls.

Natal Moon is going to be in passionate, somewhat paranoid Scorpio, along with Saturn, whatever his birth time. Neptune in Libra completes the set.

Jupiter and Saturn in Scorpio are in exact (to the minute) square aspect. Robert Pelletier ends his assessment of this aspect in his book "Planets in Aspect" like this: "Faith is your greatest ally when nothing else seems to work for you. It can sustain you through difficult periods and comfort you when you reach your goals with assurance that you have done your job well."

One thing Mike Huckabee does have is plenty of faith.

From Matt Taibbi's article linked above .....in a recent appearance at the Prestonwood Baptist Church near Dallas, he told audiences that Christians are sitting in the pole position of the race to Armageddon. "If you're with Jesus Christ, we know how it turns out in the final moment," he said. "I've read the last chapter in the book, and we do end up winning.""

And....

"One of his first acts as governor was to block Medicaid from funding an abortion for a mentally retarded teenager who had been raped by her stepfather — an act in direct violation of federal law, which requires states to pay for abortions in cases of rape. "The state didn't fund a single such abortion while Huckabee was governor", says Dr. William Harrison of the Fayetteville Women's Clinic. "Zero."

Matt Taibbi tells us that, as president, Huckabee would support a constitutional amendment banning abortion and would give science a back seat to religion. "Science changes with every generation and with new discoveries, and God doesn't," Huckabee says. "So I'll stick with God if the two are in conflict." "

If Mike Huckabee were to become president, I think we'd have to find some way to leave these shores. And I'd best leave it at that.
