Voting day, November 2008 was my first ever chance to vote as a US citizen. I then felt buoyed up with anticipation and hope. Today, 4 years later, I feel only apprehension bordering on despair. In tune with my own feelings, a couple of pieces by writers who also appear to find themselves near to deep despair:
Know what I'm going to be wearing ?
The S & M Election by Chris HedgesSo.... off to the voting station soon, in my head an old but still relevant song by Leonard Cohen:
Against Voting: "As long as we live we shall have to live together with ourselves" by Arthur Silber at Once Upon A Time
(4 November 2012)
Know what I'm going to be wearing ?
.....These rose colored glasses, that I'm looking through
Show only the beauty, 'cos they hide all the truth,
And they let me hold on to the good times, the good lines....

Hi Annie, I just found your blog and like it. I was fortunate to see Leonard Cohen live last night in Los Angeles, at LA Live. He played for 3 1/2 hours!! It was amazing.
thank you for this thoughtful post. I am so relieved that our election will soon be behind us. Hopefully we can begin to work together and create some real good in this country!
As they say it was voting against and not for. So, so very glad that BO reigns as the other was beyond repugnant and awful.
But that said what hopey changey will occur?

Kris Cahill ~ Hi there!
Thanks for stopping by. :-)
I envy your seeing Leonard Cohen - Wow!!
Glad the election is all over...or supposedly over. It seems Romney isn't going accepting defeat just yet.
Wisewebwoman ~~ I can't rejoice, except for the fact that it's more or less over.
I suspected Obama was the chosen one of The Real Powers That Be - yet again.
It'll just be 4 years of the same, with hardly any objections from the Democrat base to stuff they'd have screamed blue murder about had Romney attempted to do it.
