CYCLICAL & EPOCHAL

Astrology is all about the cycles, in the short and medium term, epochs in the long term. Simple cycles of each planet's orbit around the Sun, more complex cycles of aspects made and re-made between planets as they travel. Some cycles are easy to recognise, once the basics of astrology are understood. Saturn's 28-ish year cycle, punctuated by 4 x 7-year markers, is possibly the most frequently talked-about with regard to natal astrology. Uranus takes roughly 84 years to cycle the zodiac, these days that's near to matching a human life cycle. Longer astrological cycles can identify themselves in corresponence with mundane and historical events and themes.

For an expert's words see
this chapter on Astrological Cycles from Dane Rudhyar's book ASTROLOGICAL TIMING, The Transition to the New Age.

Some older posts of my own relate to cycles - some are definitely astrological, others could well be:

100 year cycle

75-year cycle

60-year cycle

560-year cycle

248-year cycle

Various

“There are only patterns, patterns on top of patterns, patterns that affect other patterns. Patterns hidden by patterns. Patterns within patterns. If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself. What we call chaos is just patterns we haven't recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can't decipher. What we can't understand we call nonsense. What we can't read we call gibberish. There is no free will. There are no variables.”

This is why I drive a BI-cycle...LOL.

mike ~ Yeah - well, you would, wouldn't you! ;-)

Awww - Frankie!!! Love that video - thanks!

A few minutes ago I was thinking that I ought to have included the longest cycle we're aware of - the approx. 26,000 year cycle of Ages. In checking the exact number for that I came across this, a small fact among detail of something else. I hadn't fully appreciated this rather obvious fact:

We can be fairly sure that the Sumerians were aware of the cycle, as we can see from the table above that it offers a natural division of both time and space into 360°, from units of 6 and 10. The Sumerians are the earliest culture to measure both time and space in units of 6 and 10. A system called the Hexi-decimal system.

Remarkably, time and space are still measured today by the same units of measurement. For example, we can see the year divided by 12 months, with each day being divided by 24 hours, each one divisible by 60 minutes, and each minute by a further 60 seconds. Similarly, the earth is divided by 360 degrees, each degree being divisible by 60 'minutes and each minute by a further 60 'seconds' of an arc.

Well, if you're going to start tossing-out the big number cycles, how about the cosmic year?

From Wiki:
"The galactic year, also known as a cosmic year, is the duration of time required for the Solar System to orbit once around the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. Estimates of the length of one orbit range from 225 to 250 million terrestrial years. The Solar System is traveling at an average speed of 828,000 km/h (230 km/s) or 514,000 mph (143 mi/s) within its trajectory around the galactic center, which is about one 1300th of the speed of light—a speed at which an object could circumnavigate the Earth's equator in 2 minutes and 54 seconds."

mike (again) ~ Wow...now that's some big-ass cycle!! :-)

No doubt, too our, and other galaxies are all doing a circular waltz around some other central point, which in turn is sauntering around some other.....etc. Maybe our whole vast universe is just one of many vast universes which are...you've guessed it!

And the cycles waltz in the opposite direction, too. There is yet no smallest small. As atomic sub-particles, each cycles amongst the others. Gasp! Cosmology makes the price of oil so meaningless.

mike (again) ~ Indeed ....and not only the price of oil!
