In writing yesterday's post I asked myself what constitutes "cool", in the music world and elsewhere. I guess that cool, like beauty, is really in the eye or ear of the beholder. There ought to be some kind of loose definition possible though.
Are some zodiac signs cooler than others? I mean, when taken in isolation (that's important), without the full chart mix - an individual "flavour". From my own astro perspective here's how I see the isolated zodiac signs, others may see things differently, it depends on one's own astro makeup as to what's cool and what's not.
Aries: cool, because it leads and is unafraid to be itself, impervious to criticism.
Taurus: uncool - too traditional and reliable - too close to the status quo.
Gemini: can be both at the same time - or alternately.
Cancer: uncool - too sentimental and cheesy.
Leo: would like to be cool, but too keen to be popular and take the limelight.
Virgo: cool because it's so tight-ass nitpicking and doesn't care what people think.
Libra: uncool - too charming and easy to like.
Scopio: coolest of the cool - scary, sexy, fairly unpleasant and hard to like.
Sagittarius: much too much of a good thing to be truly cool.
Capricorn: potentially cool - similar reasons to Virgo.
Aquarius: potentially uncool - tries too hard please and understand "the people".
Pisces: can be both at the same time, like Gemini, but generally doesn't care to be cool.

I've been reading your blog from astrodispatch for a good stretch now and just wanted you to know how very much I enjoy it. thank you.
Thank you so much, Satori - your kind comment is much appreciated!
I enjoy writing the blog, but it's a great big cherry on top when someone else enjoys it too. :-)
Interesting takedown, T. I would disagree with some of the analysis, based on my friends and family, but then again it is a fine science and timing is everything.

From deep and meaningful discussions with my kids over the years, I've come to realise that 'cool' means 'what's hot'.
Maybe "cool" has something in common with "pornography"...difficult to define, but you know it when you see it!
I use this word a lot. What strikes me as cool is when I see someone or something expressing their inner nature in a most sincere manner.
Cool post, Twilight!
WWW ~~~But don't forget that the above are "signs in isolation" - your friends and family have natal charts with a myriad of connections to different signs from their Sun sign, all combined make the personality, not just Sun sign. A cool or uncool Sun sign (according to my list) could be mixed with two or three strong cool ones - producing a personality with lots of cool - or it works the other way too - lots of uncool.
:-) Eg. My Aquarius Sun is, I believe, potentially uncool, my Aries Moon is cool, but other connections trend towards uncool.
You have to take the whole picture into consideration. I guess most of us have a strand of cool in us somewhere, but it doesn't always get a chance to shine - or should that be shiver. ;-)
AN ~~~ Yes - isn't that peculiar?
:-)
Shawn ~~~ Nice definition. I haven't come up with one which satisfies me completely yet, other than that "it's in the eye and ear of the beholder" - as you say, a bit like pornography - and the idea of what it is changes from person to person.
Thanks for perceiving the post as cool though. ;-)
