Snip:On Monday 14 July 1975 I started a job which would shape my career for the remainder of my working life. I joined the UK civil service to work in what were then called The Industrial Tribunals. The title was later amended to 'The Employment Tribunals'. It may seem odd that I would mark the date, but for some reason it has always remained in my memory.
That's what I was doing in 1975 on this date, it was Monday then, it's Monday now - Music Monday too.

From two videos below, one for US music charts of 1975, the other for UK charts 1974/5, there are quick snips of many well remembered songs, some have become absolute classics of their kind, but there are several I've never heard of. I see also some song titles I know very well now, but didn't know at all then in 1975 - it was as though I heard time rolling back on itself with songs such as Freddy Fender's "Before the Next Teardrop Falls", Willy Nelson's "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" , BJ Thomas's "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song". I came to discover these, and many other, songs only in the 1990s, during annual vacations in Tenerife, Canary Islands, where a friend of ours sang nightly in restaurant/bars, and I fell in love with country music from the 1970s. In the actual 1970s my musical taste was leaning heavily towards Frank Sinatra and Neil Diamond, both fairly uncool by 1970s' standards, but what the heck - I liked what I liked and still do!
One title and artist I remembered clearly from the 1975 list of UK hits: Telly Savalas (aka Kojak) speaking rather than singing "If". This recording used to give me goosebumps - but it was ridiculed by the "cool" set, and declared "in bad taste" by others. I liked Telly Savalas, didn't care what "they" said.

1975 was a bland year! The Beatles era was finished and disco was peaking in popularity. I wasn't a disco fan at all, though I do have some favorite songs. Polyester and pop music were in. End of the Vietnam War in 1975.
I was a struggling college student with little free time on my hands with work and school, but I did manage to have some errant pleasures...LOL. I have no idea what I was doing in July, 1975, as it's a blur in my memory bank.
I was five months along with my first child and working 6 day weeks. 19 , unmarried and trying to make sure I had enough of a nest egg for US so I could stay home for 8 weeks after the birth. It all went very well. I am Blessed. as for music , I know I listened to the radio a lot but I dont recall the songs..
In 1975, I was still in high school. It was summer vacation so I was probably babysitting for a set of twins and occasionally a few others too. I think that was the summer my mom and dad got divorced, which was the start of a new life for me.
When I just looked at my progressed chart for that period, my p. Moon was exactly conjunct my natal Pluto, transiting Uranus was conjunct my Sun and transiting Jupiter was conjunct my South Node - you can probably imagine the exhilarating sense of freedom I suddenly felt. Though intense, it was as if I was finally able to breath and relax.
I loved soul and R&B, also spent a lot of time singing along to Laura Nyro and dancing to whatever inspired me.

I just looked at the astrology of July 14, 1975, at planetwatcher.com...not the best day to start a job, Twilight! Sun conj Saturn in Cancer, both square Jupiter in Aries...Uranus in Libra is 6* from forming a T-sq with them. Mars is inconjunct Neptune exactly. Moon conjunct Pluto in Libra, then forming a yod with Neptune-Mars.
So, do these formidable astrological events of the first day on the job essentially describe how your years at this new job panned-out?
mike (again) ~ LOL! The Woody Allen quote reminded me of the movie The Curious Case of Benjamin button - that was its exact theme.
Well let's see: Sun conjunct Saturn - reflects the law, a legal department - in Cancer - law with a touch of compassion at times, when appropriate.
Looking at the day in my ephemeris.....
Pluto was at 6 Libra in trine to my Aquarius Sun, Neptune in Sag was sextile my Sun. Saturn at 22 Cancer was probably close to conjunction with my ascendant, Jupiter in Aries close to conjunction to my natal Moon.
So...dunno - might have been a bad day for anyone appearing before tribunals that day, but for me it was the start of a secure and happy enough, if hairy at times, quarter century. :-)
