LAURA SAN GIACOMO

A fellow Blogger, Vanilla Rose, asked if I'd take an astro-look at Laura San Giacomo. The name wasn't familiar to me, but a quick Google search reminded me that I've seen this actress in several movies without being aware of her name: Pretty Woman and Quigley Down Under are two I easily recalled.

Another movie for which she's well-known (though I've not yet seen it) is Sex Lies and Videotape. She has starred in many other films as well as in several TV productions. She studied acting in the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama, has been married twice, once to actor Cameron Dye (1990-1998), and then to Matt Adler (2000). She has a son - Mason - with Dye, born in 1996. The child has cerebral palsy. Ms San Giacomo is actively involved in a number of social projects, mostly disability-related ones. The actress, whose ‘ample bosom’ has often triggered widespread discussion among her fans, loves horseback riding, gymnastics, ice skating, ballet, tennis, golf and playing piano.

Since her son's birth Ms San Giacomo has decided to concentrate on TV roles (in Just Shoot Me and Saving Grace, for example) rather than movies in order to devote more time to caring for him.
She has appeared at the Environmental Media Awards, the "Voices For Change" gala benefit and concert which benefits Children with Disabilities, and the "Friends Finding a Cure" gala benefiting Project ALS. She is also a founder of the CHIME Charter Elementary School, an elementary school in Woodland Hills, CA for children with special needs. The school opened its doors in 2001. As a charter school, CHIME provides free public education to students and admits them through a lottery system. The school serves approximately 200 children in kindergarten through fifth grade who live in communities around California's San Fernando Valley.See E-Notes

Laura San Giacomo was born in West Orange, New Jersey on 14 November 1962. Her time of birth isn't available online, so a 12 noon chart must suffice. That's a pity - we can't know her rising sign, and, importantly, because Moon was in the last degree of Gemini at noon, we can't know whether Moon was in Gemini or Cancer. If born 1:00 PM or later she'd have Cancer Moon.

That stellium (cluster of planets) in magnetic Scorpio is a perfect recipe for an actress who finds sexy roles easy to play! Sun(self), Venus (the arts) Mercury(communication) Neptune(creativity, imagination) blend with Scorpio's innate eroticism, et voila !

The challenge of motherhood, a serious one in the best of circumstances, has to be doubly challenging when the child has a disability. Her son was born in 1996 when Uranus transited Aquarius, within a few degrees of her natal Saturn for much of the year, actually conjoining it in early 1997. As I know from my own experience of that transit to my natal Sun - it brought life-changing events!

Quote from Ms San Giacomo:
Laura: After the birth of my son, my whole world shifted. Priorities changed in a second, he was the beginning, middle, and end to every day now. I couldn't have asked for a better gift, than what I received in Mason.
There are, unsurprisingly, challenging aspects evident in Laura's natal chart. Square (90*) aspects from Mars and Saturn - the two strongest potential "nasties" among our planets - go against that Scorpio cluster. Mars challenges the whole cluster, Saturn challenges the two in earlier Scorpio. In addition, Mars and Saturn oppose each other (albeit a tad widely) to produce what astrologers call a "T-square"
From Skyscript:

T-SQUARE:
Two planets in opposition are both in square to a third planet. This brings tension and sharp, pressing problems, the result of which may be great energy and consequently a better than average chance of success throughout life.

When interpreting a T' Square all the factors involved - planets, signs and houses - must be taken separately and then built up into a picture of the choices, difficulties and solutions which each planet suggests.
When the 'T' Square is in: (as in Laura San Giacomo's case) Fixed Signs, people may be excessively stubborn, fighting personal battles to the bitter end.

Laura San Giacomo:
I have a son, Mason, who is disabled - cerebral palsy - and he does not walk independently, sit independently or speak. He uses a talking computer. I started becoming an advocate for him when he was 3 years old.
Her personal battle is one for which she is well-equipped, astrologically. A strong and determined lady!

Vanilla Rose ~~ My pleasure - I was interested to learn about her.
A DVD of Sex Lies and Videotape is now on its way to me from e-bay - look forward to seeing the movie.

What adds to her sexiness is that it is done on her own terms: she and Andie MacDowell both refused to do nudity for "sex, lies and videotape". I think the story is that Steven Soderbergh was told it would help sell the film if there was female nudity and both lead actresses had been signed up without agreeing to it. So it was entirely reasonable for them to turn it down, but I imagine it would have been hard for someone else in Ms San Giacomo's position to refuse. I think imdb list it as only being her second ever film.

Of course, that leaves the question of why Soderbergh decided against showing any of the actual sex scenes in detail ...

Vanilla Rose - I see no reason for nudity in a movie - don't object to seeing it, but I prefer that all the sexy bits are left to my imagination (which is probably more colourful than the director's anyway) ;-)

Wow, thanks for this Twilight! I was born Nov 12 1962, so this chart is very close to mine. Yes ma'am, that T square is a bugger - can hardly wait until Saturn joins the party in Scorpio next year and immediately starts squaring natal Saturn.
The cup is half full, the cup is half full..............

Mandy ~~~ I see you're readying yourself for a new (short-term) challenge! :-)

There'll be compensations though, for sure, possibly more than you can imagine, from where you stand at present.

I think sometimes the nudity makes a point. "The Crying Game" and "Boys Don't Cry", for example. But yes, usually it does not further the plot. If you like things left to the imagination, you'll like the bit of s, l, and v when Spader's character notes that San Giacomo's character is not wearing any underwear. That leaves A LOT to the imagination!
