The Look of You

Much as I doubt that astrology/zodiac signs can influence a person's appearance to any great extent, or at all, I have to admit that there are time when I doubt my doubts.

I've noticed a distinct "look" in some people (mainly males) with prominent Capricorn, Aquarius or Gemini in their natal charts. Sun in those signs or those signs rising are most likely to be the culprits I think. Sign similarities are much easier to spot in males. Women tend to alter their appearance in subtle ways via makeup, hairstyle, hair colour, not to mention the more modern stuff: botox, laser treatment and what have you. Males will experiment with facial hair and hair length, but this doesn't seem to
seriously affect the "look" .

What got me onto this subject - again - I've covered the topic before in these posts (see below) - was seeing actor Victor Webster in Continuum (mentioned in last weekend's post). I'd never seen Victor Webster in any show previously. I suspected, from his looks he might have Aquarius emphasised natally, but hadn't bothered to look for his bio online until starting this post - and whaddya know?
Born February 7!

The "look" is hard to describe: kind of classic, kind of symmetric, steady expression, nice eyes. Think a younger Tom Selleck, Clark Gable, Burt Reynolds, John Travolta (when younger), Neil Diamond - for examples known to most of us. For every classic Aquarius look, though, there's another version that's nothing like it; and in women I haven't spotted any distinct Aquarius "look" at all.

In the case of Gemini and Capricorn, more than a distinctive "look" it's often build, attitude and expression giving the sign away initially. Capricorn tends to be craggy, calmly serious-faced; Gemini often lanky to skinny, restless, alert.

A website called Serendipity Astrolovers has a series of pages outlining the author's thoughts on this subject. Much of the Aquarius section doesn't apply to yours truly, but there are a couple of points that do.

Link to a previous post of my own on this topic from 2011, using planets instead of zodiac signs:

  1. I'll need to read again from the link you posted before I comment about this topic..
In the meantime as I was clicking around astroland:-) I found this site. Though it would fit better in your artsy fartsy friday I thought I'd go ahead and post it here .. Maybe we can discuss it later. I'm not drawn to fantasy art , but these photo attracted me..

  2. I've had several Capricorn Sun acquaintances around my neighborhood the past several years and there are subtle similarities in their appearance. With the release of "American Sniper", Bradley Cooper has been all over the place with interviews and I decided that he had distinctive Capricorn features...sure enough, he's January 5th.

Photos of Jimmy Kimmel don't seem to reveal his November 13th, Scorpio Sun, but his late night monologues bring-out his Scorpio eyes, as he makes facial expressions over time.

It's helpful to watch individuals in motion several minutes to mentally digest their features and styles. Individual photos may not suffice. Gemini's big-eyes are easier to spot in snapshots, though.

As you state here, there are individuals that are photo-representative to their Sun signs. I typically require observing the person's mannerisms over a period of time. Having the astrological virus in my brain, I'm always on the look-out for any clues to astrological identity...it's a bit like a game for me.

  3. P.S. - I'm much better at deriving an individual's astrological Sun element (fire, earth, air, water) than I am their actual Sun sign. When I play the guessing game, I'm very aware the characteristics may reflect the ascendant. Those cases where I obtain the birth information and view the natal chart are often correct for a generalized emphasis on a particular sign, whether Sun, ascendant or concentration of planets. More often than not, the Sun sign or ascendant sign does come through, regardless of planets.

  4. Sonny ~ Hmm - those are good pieces of artwork, but for me they are not varied enough in "flavour". Of course they are zodiac "monsters" so not the usual arty depictions of the signs.
Clever though. Aquarius pic is a bit odd - but then Aquarius IS a bit odd.

  5. mike ~ That was clever - I'd not have had Bradley Cooper down as Capricorn from his looks, I'd have considered him too "pretty" in a delicate way (maybe I see his Libra Moon?) nor Jimmy Kimmel as Scorpio, though I haven't often watched his show, so not really in a position to judge.

It'd be a lot easier to guess signs in real life, in a position to watch and listen to ordinary conversations and attitudes. With regard to appearance only, and just with knowledge available from TV, film, photos, it's going to be near impossible. Just now and again though there IS a certain distinctive look shared by certain "inmates" of a zodiac sign, (maybe best recognised by others with that sign prominent?)

I do the guessing game too. One I guessed without realising it was Alan Cumming - he's in "The Good Wife" on TV and we saw him also in "Any Day Now" - I think it's on Netflix - excellent movie. I decided I really like him, superb actor, but I couldn't quite put a finger on why I liked him - I eventually looked for his d.o.b. - 27 January (same as my own). :-/
Same thing happend with David Strathairn some time ago (born 26 January). It's quite spooky when that happens!

  6. Beware of those retroactively classified rotary phone secrets...you can go to prison:

"... But instead, the government is arguing, in all seriousness, that Jeffrey Sterling should go to prison because of three documents on dialing a rotary phone dating to 1987."

  7. mike (again) ~ That's peculiar! not sure I understand it, but it's still peculiar!

Last time I used a rotary phone I think it'd be in a call box in the UK, before they installed phones with press-buttons. Dark ages stuff. ;-)
