Donkey Talk

Husband uncharacteristically failed to write a caption for this vintage photograph from his collection. He says he concentrated on the fact that some colouriser, at some point had been tinkering with it, and coloured just the trees.

For a bigger version (recommended) click on the image, the bigger image which appears can be made even larger (if your screen is up to it) by clicking on the down-pointing arrow (at far right) under the photo. A selection of sizes is offered there.

Mules

My brain's not at what it calls its best today - too many pills, but I've come up with:

Donkey to another donkey: Her skirt tickles...but if she ever takes that hat off, I'm eating those flowers.

Other Donkey: We trek 50 yards, then a photograph? I suppose these people think they're doing the Great Outdoors thing. Pike's Peak this ain't! Snort!

First donkey: Hey, have you noticed something funny about the trees round here?

Anybody willing to help out with something a tad better?

" yea yea thats right, we are beasts of burden, and never more so than today~!
All you humans look at the dang camera and smile so we can get this over with.
Then please as quick as possible, get your ass off my ass.
thanks and have a nice day-- somewhere else om your outdoor tour."

that's what I'd have been thinking if I was a donkey.

  2. or...
I have 2 choices.. carry your, off balance- twitchy behind all over these mountain trails or be carted off to the meat packer.. hmmmm, gonna have to give some thought as to which of these options I'd prefer..

"Fred told me we were going to kick some ass today, but I never..."

How's the wound today, Twilight? I think you said you had wound-clinic today. One of my neighbors (his birthday was Sunday, so about a 4* Scorpio Sun) fell while walking his dog and shattered his jaw bone last Friday...his mouth is wired shut and liquids only for him. Another victim of the eclipse?!

  8. mike ~ LOL! Two more good ones! Thanks.

No, my appointment at Wound Center is tomorrow, after an ultra-sound scan on my leg at the doc's. Actually the wound on my foot is the least of my problems today, as once I stopped the ointment pain and discomfort subsided a lot. It's the combination of these darn pills making me feel nauseausly yukky and headachey. (All within expected side effects.)

Oh my ! Your neighbour could have a really bad dose of eclipse-itis, poor guy! If this is my dose of eclipse medicine it's reasonably mild (though frustrating and uncomfortable).
    :-)

  11. Looking at a large version again, I notice there seem to be groups of what look like little square white tickets stuck to tree trunks on either side of the group being photographed.
    wonder what they were?

  12. I saw those pieces of paper, too...no idea what they might be. Maybe epithets of love or "Kilroy was here" equivalents...pre-modern graffiti of some sort.

I'm sure you're "sick" of suggestions, but ginger ale was served-up for stomach queezies when I was a kid.

  13. mike (again) ~ Yes, maybe love notes.
The location might be one of some historical significance, I guess, but with so little to go on it's impossible to identify.

thanks, I have just put the kettle on and will try a cup of anyjazz's Lemon & Ginger tea. Maybe that'll be equivalent to ginger ale.

  15. LB ~ You're welcome!

PS - am going to give in and take some pro-biotic tablets, you mentioned them a few days ago, as did Sonny Husband going out as I type to get some new ones, the ones we have expired in 2010, and he'll look for the right kind of yoghurt too.

  16. Sorta interesting - look at the top of the donkey's head (the last donkey at the far right). I could only enlarge once by clicking as you described, Twilight, so I additionally used my computer's "magnifier" in my software. There is a woman in black in the background and, if you look carefully, you can see that she has ascended some sort of stairs, it appears. Behind her is a railing (of wood?) and the railing appears between the trees farther down, if you follow the railing's angle. The woman appears to be holding both hands up near her face...he left hand is very white in the photo.

  17. mike (again) ~ I'd noticed that figure and assumed she was one of the party trying to get a better view. Doing the same as you have done, using the zoom on my computer, yes she has arms raised, maybe shading her eyes?
But...I think there's the right-hand side of a rough stone arch near her...or am I seeing things?

  18. mike (again) - And there's that pale, kind of mottled area in the high mid-section, behind the tree branches - what's that. Could it be a stone wall?

  19. mike (and again) ~ Maybe the entrance to a rail or other tunnel - take a look at the selection here:

    #17 looks a possibilty

  20. Twilight ~ Hopefully you had a chance to check out those links about whether or not to take probiotics while taking anti-fungal medication.

Apparently it also makes a difference *when* you ingest probiotics in order to benefit from all the different medications you're taking - I've read where it's best to take them an hour or two apart rather than all at the same time. I'm not an expert though, so please keep that in mind.:)

If you're at all uncertain, that yogurt brand I suggested is probably a more conservative way to rebalance your system. Since adding sugar defeats the whole purpose (sugar feeds bacteria and fungus), we buy it unsweetened. I add olive oil, some lemon and a little salt and pepper, then use it as a dressing over salads or vegetables. It's yummy!

    Feel better soon, Twilight.:)

That photo reminds me of the time my brother and I rode donkeys in Yosemite. We were kids, so it was kinda fun, kinda scary.:0

  21. LB ~ I've been scooting around the net to discover how and when is best to take the capsules - these are from Walgreens "Super Probiotic" one a day.
I've taken one this afternoon and will take another in the morning 30 mins before I attempt to eat - can usually manage 1 small yoghurt, Greek, fruit mixed with plain.

Husband couldn't find any pro-biotic yoghurt. I'm glad he didn't bring Activia because it'd would likely bring on the runs and just add to my achey-breakiness. ;-)

Thanks, I did read those links plus what seems like 100 more to find different views - and there are many.

I came to the conclusion that , if it doesn't do any good, it will not do harm. I shall continue taking them well after anti-bios run their course, and suspect that'll be when they do their best job.

Thank you for your continuing help, LB. :-)

  22. Yes, I see the shadowy area you describe, Twilight. Doesn't quite match the expected underside of large branches and covers a large background area. Could be some rock formation or cave, etc. If you look at the man to the farthest right (he's in front of the woman in the background)and look over his left shoulder, it appears to be a path heading toward that shadowy area. Hhmmmm.

  23. Twilight, if you are taking a broad-spectrum antibiotic and anti-fungal, the bacteria in the probiotic will not live long in your intestines. There are many multi-drug-resistant bacteria that set-up house in cases like this. The probiotic does offer some help. A fresh yogurt (longest duration before expiration date) has gazillions of living organisms per spoonful, though they will be killed-off via your anti-microbial pills. Purchase a yogurt that states on the ingredient label an assortment of organisms, usually Bifidus and Streptococcus strains. The high protein and complex carbohydrates in yogurt will nourish you, and offer some transient protection. The real benefit comes when you discontinue your anti-microbial pills. That is typically when bacterial over-growth occurs, specifically from spore-forming organisms (the spores remain dormant until the pills are stopped, then they dominate).

I don't know which anti-microbials you are taking. Some have directions stating to take with food to help alleviate stomach upset. If you aren't eating much, you'll have stomach upsets.

I suspect you are taking Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim), which can cause nausea and vomiting. Also, if you are still indulging in a nightcap, alcohol interacts with the trimethoprim and that alone will cause stomach distress.

  24. You're welcome, Twilight. I wish I could offer you a more tangible form of support. If it makes you feel any better, most yogurts contain probiotics. Just check to be sure the label says it contains "live and active cultures". Good for you in choosing an unsweetened brand.:)

Here's a link to something that specifically addresses the issue of how to take probiotics and antibiotics at different times, spaced 1-2 hours apart: http://www.vitamedica.com/antibiotics-and-probiotics-what-you-need-to-know/

And here's something about taking probiotics and antifungals, with similar advice: http://forum.wholeapproach.com/topic/question-about-probiotics-and-anti-fungals?reply=238008614791222441

Personally, I take a probiotic capsule each morning on an empty stomach.

I understand how frustrating it can be to try and research things, let alone figure out the right questions to ask. It's too bad more health care providers don't incorporate holistic principles in their practice of medicine.:(

When I'm seeing clients -either privately or at the clinic where I volunteer- I always recommend they talk to their healthcare provider before considering any suggestions I might share as a layperson.

I want you to be well, without steering you in the wrong direction!

  25. Also, don't eat raw fruits and vegetables at this time...only cooked. No rare or medium rare meats, either.

    We care...LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I came back to mention raw foods but Mike told you and your knowing is what matters.

I too take a probiotic/active bacilli in the morning on an empty stomach.

I took the photo to my art program where it will let me inlarge it to the size of my screen, but AnyJazz has his site set for "no save as or copy paste" of his photos lol..

anyway, not sure those are pieces of paper, they look like barnacles like we sometimes have on the pine trees here. when the light hits them just right they look almost white but most of the time they are a deep beige.
not sure barnacles was the right word-- maybe crustations from where the pine tree got a little split in it and dribbled pin sap.

wishing you the best at your appointment.. holding you in my heart and thoughts.

  27. mike and LB ~ hank you for your input, it is appreciated.
Yes I have Bactrim twice a day, cephalexin 4 times a day, fluconazole once a day.

I feel much worse tonight - I cannot see me getting to the docs or Wound Center tomorrow. I have never felt as bad as this in mt whole life.

Can't eat..I've had hardly anything to eat - just can't get it down.

(no tipples for nearly 2 weeks)

Tryijg not to vomit to get rid of the meds, but it isn't easy.

    Thanks again, LB.

  28. Sonny ~ The little square things might be some kind of fungus I guess. That was my first thought, but they are reguklar quares, which seems unnatural.

    Thanks for your good wishes.

I'll try to remember to ask husband about getting a copy of the pic,

  30. Mike and all:
Annie asked me to tell y'all she's feeling ill due to all the antibiotics and anti-fungal meds. She hasn't eaten in 5 days due to nausea and headache.

She says she'll be back as soon as she feels human-ish.
