Image of Aquarius ?

The photograph below is among my husband's collection of vintage and antique photographs. (See Lost Gallery). I liked it at once - it's unintentionally (?) arty as well as being an unintentional representation of the two sides of zodiac sign Aquarius. Note that I say zodiac sign Aquarius - not "an Aquarian".

Aquarius has two planetary rulers: Saturn traditionally, and Uranus in modern astrology. A more different set of characteristics associated with two planets and one zodiac sign would be hard to find in astrology.

The young man at the foot of the steps represents Saturn's input. He's standing in front of rigidly structured lines, conservatively dressed, quietly studying his book. The fellow at top of the steps represents Uranus - a bit wild and woolly, standing with the open sky as background, clothes rumpled, devil-may-care expression...unpredictable - what'll he do next?

  1. GP: An arty picture indeed! Made me think of a story I (vaguely) remember where Chronos (alias Saturn) was being shaken up by his co-gods.

In godly mythology they all had sort of an open harem. Jupiter's place was very animated and fertile all the time. The "wives" of Saturn however had less fun. But, slaves taken in his sturdy orbit they had no alternative but to keep up with the grudgy old man, that is when he had "some time for that". So the younger ones concocted a potency brew (Viagra-type) to get some action going, out of which Uranus was born. And he turned out quite contrary to his father!

  3. Happy Birthday Twilight from a fellow Sun Aquarian in the UK. And James Higham has his in a couple of weeks too! I better spare his blushes as to how young he will be!

Where did you find out where Urania falls in your natal chart? It doesn't appear to be in the list at astro.com

I have Uranus in Leo opposing my Sun and Saturn in Cappy, my rising sign, with only Merc and Chiron to keep my Sun company.

May you have another great year.

  4. Rossa ~~ Thank you - and a Happy One, when it comes, to you too Rossa! Will see about James later. ;-)

Yes, you can find the position of Urania in your natal chart at astro-com:
Go to the extended chart selection, then, at the bottom of that page theres a link to a very long alphabetical list of asteroids each with a number. Urania is number 30 on the list.
You can then add that to your chart selection data. :-)

  5. Or....he could be about to say to the guy with the book: "While you've had your head stuck in that, I've been round the corner making out with your girlfriend."

It's all in the perception, you see.

    ;-)

  6. Kaleymorris ~~ Me too. What was actually going on is open to interpretation. Himself thinks that perhaps the fellow at the top of the steps wasn't meant to be in the shot - it was meant to be a nice pic of a studious son. :-)

  7. RJ Adams ~~ Indeed! :-) His expression says as much.

  8. Thanks for that T. Urania at 3 Sag, 13 degrees from my natal moon, but conjunct my natal Jupiter in Scorpio. I'll have to play around with some of the others and see what else I can uncover. R
