A tid-bit of news not, as yet, made much of: there's a petition for a writ of mandamus seeking to nullify the results of the 2016 U.S. Presidential election on a current SCOTUS docket.
SCOTUS docket 16-907 DISTRIBUTED TO JUSTICES FOR CONFERENCE on March 17, 2017.
(sleepy): SCOTUS will view it as a political issue, not a judicial one, and punt.
(Pat):That would be the best choice. Probable worst outcome more tantrums from those behind the case and their supporters. Anything else spells violent response to me.

Commenters at naked capitalism.com:While the world is paying attention to theatrical battles over President Trump’s executive orders and cabinet nominees, a largely unnoticed and potentially landmark case sits before the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. A petition for a writ of mandamus seeking to nullify the results of the 2016 U.S. Presidential election sits on the SCOTUS docket..........

I've nothing to add other than this, if successful (highly unlikely), would be preferable to impeachment of President Trump, leaving us with President Pence - not a beneficial exchange! But, but...violent response....rock and hard place! Better to stick with what we've got, all things considered. The Resistance has taken the first official step toward ending the nightmare that is Trump’s presidency. The Supreme Court of the United States has just advanced a case that could kick Trump’s entire administration out of office.
Unlikely as you say but this is going to end terribly. Already tourism has dropped (jobs!) Substantially. I haven't been back to the US since 2011 when I was held for 2 hours in Homeland Security. I was terrified. It is much worse now I hear from friends. Everyone I know avoiding. Many in solidarity with POC.

Wisewebwoman ~ Yes, that'll be one side effect, among many others as times goes on.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to see any happy outcomes as things are right now. :-/
I do agree with you that Pence could well prove the fire to Trump's frying pan. Also, that SCOTUS getting rid of Trump is about as likely as an Oscar compere announcing the wrong film has won the top award. Ooops, what HAVE I said!?!!
ReplyDeleteRJ Adams ~ LOL! Uncertain times. As my Grandma used to say:
