Thankfully

Two words today:

6 comments:

  1. And a big Happy Thanksgiving to you and anyjazz!

    Here's Burrough's "Thanksgiving Prayer":

Something so wrong, yet so right about his oration.

I see that Jill Stein has called for a recount in Wisconsin and millions of dollars are flooding-in to support the effort, along with the other two states. Who'd a thought she would be the one to step into the fray? I hope the money is well-spent, but should the results indicate deviousness, all hell breaks-out.

The electronic voting machines have loose standards and the vendors have proprietary software, not to mention that most are very old:
"Use of the voting machines that are in operation in some Wisconsin counties has been banned in other states, including California, after security analysts repeatedly showed how easily they could be hacked into."

  2. mike ~ Thank you! Can't argue, with any confidence, about anything W.H. Burrough's said - but in spite of it all, as Matthew McConaughey's character in Dazed and Confused famously declared:
You just gotta keep livin' man, L-I-V-I-N.

    I'd add....and trustin' and hopin', H-O-P-I-N'

Yes, Jill Stein is now getting some of the media time she has been denied all year.
I find it a tad suspicious, though, that so much was raised in so little time, unless some rather large chunks of the $2 million+ came as donations from some multi-millionaire Democrats and Big Banks, and other nefarious bodies beloved of the Clintons, despised by Bernie Sanders. Still, it is right that there should be an audit of sorts, it could be akin to opening a wasp nest though. I read that Clinton would need to be found to have actually won three of the Rust Belt states for it to swing the presidency to her. That seems unlikely - but then everything this year has been unlikely so... and as you wrote, hell breaking out would be the certain outcome.

" To David Bowie in hope he is still alive.
    Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2016.

Thanks for McRib and artisanal burgers, destined to be shat out through wholesome American guts.

Thanks for a constitution to litigate and dismantle.

Thanks for the internet to provide a modicum of anger and abuse.

Thanks for fake news to shill and spin, leaving the truth to rot.

Thanks for euphemisms for white supremacy.

Thanks for the American dream, vulgarized and falsified until the bare lies shone through.

Thanks again for the KKK, for militarized police still feelin' their notches.

For congressional Republicans, with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces.

Thanks for "All Lives Matter" stickers.

Thanks for ignoring AIDS until it was too late.

Thanks for rendition and domestic surveillance.

Thanks for a country where everyone's always checking their tweets.

Thanks for a media that stinks.

Yes, thanks for all the memories — hands up, don't shoot!

You're still a headache, and you're still at war.

    Thanks for Donald Trump.

Thanks for the last and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams."

  4. mike (again) ~ Yes, lol, a highly suspicious accent! Good updating though.
I played both W. H. Burroughs' and the update to anyjazz tonight after we'd been with family members for lunch and get together. We wondered if there ought also to be an Anti-Thanksgiving Day when people should donate or activate on behalf of some of the non-thankful matters mentioned by Burroughs and the update.

  5. Don't know about an anti-Thanksgiving Day, but there is an Unthanksgiving Day or National Day of Mourning, which is concomitantly celebrated along-side Thanksgiving Day. Which of the two holidays one celebrates depends on which side of the Atlantic Ocean one's ancestors lived prior to the "discovery" of N America.

  6. mike (again) ~ Understandable! During all my years in England, I had, at best, a very vague and muddled idea about what was meant when the word "Thanksgiving" came up.
I think my clearest idea was that it was what we'd call the "Harvest Festival", when altars in church would be decorated with vegetables and bread and bundles of wheat, as well as flowers, and special hymns were sung. "All is safely gathered in, 'ere the inter storms begin....." (I actually remembered that without asking Google). I was a church-goer so long ago and far away. :-)

And the mail just arrived - our first Christmas card among it, from a cousin who lives in Cyprus....now that's really an extreme example of posting early!
