Who'll it be for this Music Monday ? Shall I feature Claude Debussy - he was born this day, 22 August in France, in 1862. Or should it be Tori Amos? Today is her birthday too, born in North Carolina in 1963.
Before deciding, I noticed that Tori Amos has recorded an album in tribute to several classical composers, Claude Debussy being one of them. The album title is Night of Hunters. This is a rather nice link between two natives of 22 August. It deserves a couple of videos.
Claude Debussy's Girl with the Flaxen Hair:
The piece Tori Amos chose to honour Debussy was his Girl with the Flaxen Hair. She called her tribute piece Carry.(See HERE)
Carry ~ Tori Amos
Another video, clarifying the lyrics.

Claude Debussy's Girl with the Flaxen Hair:
The [French] title "La fille aux cheveux de lin" was inspired by Leconte de Lisle's poem by the same name, one of his Chansons écossaises (Scottish songs) from his 1852 collection Poèmes antiques (Ancient Poems). The image of a girl with flaxen-coloured hair has been utilized in fine art as a symbol of innocence and naivety. (Wikipedia)

I'm not tuned to piano as a lead or solo instrument, but I do like the Debussy youtube presentation...soft and relaxing. Not so much the Tory Amos interpretation. August 22nd is astrologically on the cusp and I see that the Sun will move into Virgo in a couple of hours. I have several friends born on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th, with their Suns 0* to 1* Virgo.
ReplyDeleteOne for anyjazz, John Lee Hooker born today:

I like Tears for Fears' Roland Orzabal, lead vocalist on several of their hits, also born today:

Happy Sun in Virgo everyone! I believe Sabina is Virgo Sun and LB is Virgo Asc. Some of my BFFs are Virgo Suns, but several frenemies in the group, too...LOL. I was raised by two Virgo-Sun parents...not recommended for the faint of heart.
BTW - I viewed "The Little Death" (2015, Australian) last night on Netflix and very much enjoyed it. A strange film, a dark comedy, with interlaced vignettes revolving around sex, but more about the psychological aspect. Some brief sex scenes, but nothing explicit to offend the prudish (whoever SHE is...LOL). The first half builds, then the second half goes to town. Certainly not for everyone, but this Scorpio Sun enjoyed it.
mike ~ Thanks for the additional birthday music. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, we're cuspy now. Husband's elder son has a birthday today, but he's on the Leo side of the cusp. Several 22nd (of other months) birthdays in his family too.
I'll put a Virgo post up sometime this week. A happy Virgo-type month to you too! :-)
Thanks for the Netflix suggestion - I'll try to remember to take a look, maybe sample 10 minutes - not sure it'd be up our alley though. We're doing an episode-a-night mixture of some British series at present (all Netflix): The Grand; George Gently; Rosemary & Thyme. The first two are set in the past, 1920 for the first, 1964 for the second; and the third set in the present(-ish), first aired in 2003.
