Dem.Primaries held - cream. Primary today -West Virginia- aqua |
West Virginia voters do the primary deed today, in Nebraska Republicans only are still to vote.
West Virginia - that name always brings to mind yet another song of John Denver (yesterday's post featured three of 'em). What the heck... here's another for good measure:
The state relies heavily on coal mining, an industry which is nearing its last days if strong action to slow down climate change is to be taken.
West Virginia - that name always brings to mind yet another song of John Denver (yesterday's post featured three of 'em). What the heck... here's another for good measure:
West Virginia's is an open primary which will award 37 delegates. Another win would give Bernie further reason to continue his campaign, following his victory in Indiana last Tuesday; he is polling slightly ahead of Hillary Clinton in West Virginia at the time of typing.
The state relies heavily on coal mining, an industry which is nearing its last days if strong action to slow down climate change is to be taken.
The state is noted for its mountains and rolling hills, its historically significant logging and coal mining industries, and its political and labor history. It is one of the most densely karstic areas in the world, making it a choice area for recreational caving and scientific research (Wiki - link above)The coal industry issue could go against Bernie or Hillary almost equally - though it does appear that the demographics of the state favour Bernie, if earlier patterns are repeated. West Virginia has only a tiny percentage of African American voters, a pattern which, in past primaries has helped Bernie.
I have a case of primary fatigue. I would be on the edge of my chair with excitement, if it weren't for Hillary's purchased super-delegates. I'm glad that The Bern is forging onward, leading to a contested DNC convention, assuming Hillary doesn't acquire her necessary standard-delegates, but it's not really "contested" by the DNC rules. Still, lots can happen between now and then, as we keep witnessing.

Here's to Bernie winning the most delegates possible and taking his platform to the DNC convention! He's a winner and a keeper!
mike ~ Thanks for the links. :-/
ReplyDeleteYes, it's draggin' out now, gettin' a tad tedious - but we're on the home stretch.
If Bernie can keep going and remain hopeful - we must do the same!
Just watched this nice video from last nights Late show with Stephen Colbert when Bernie popped in:
https://youtu.be/OwzVk9TPKzQ
Good Colbert-Bernie video...LOL! In the "A Contested Convention..." link, I enjoyed Biden's subtle inferred support of Bernie's protracted campaigning. There's much to be gained by Bernie's efforts, but I'm sure the DNC chair, Debbie W-S, has contrived an evil plan to thwart his traction. The current Jupiter-Saturn-Neptune T-square will reward the humble, ethical, and truthful...that puts Hillary and Debbie out in the cold. There are some excellent aspects involving Jupiter currently, plus Jupiter just turned stationary-direct very close to Bernie's Sun. Transiting, stationary-retrograde Saturn is squaring his Sun.
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the Republican crash-and-burn. I have to hand it to Trump for that major accomplishment. I hope for the same in the Democratic party via Bernie.
mike (again) ~ Yes, I liked the Biden remarks - I do wish Bernie and Biden were running together, one way or t'other. I liked Biden back in the 2008 race. He's establishment, but only mildly, I believe that he has some of Bernie's good points also. - honesty, integrity, down to earth.
ReplyDeleteI've just been looking at today's chart at Current Astro Weather website:
http://alabe.com/cgi-bin/chart/astrobot.cgi?param=yvr&input5=brewster,ma
It's a rather nicely patterned chart at first sight : string of sextiles, Grand Trine, mystic rectangle.
Trump is definitely up for a "Legend in His Own Lunchtime" award! I've seen it said online that he's probably in league with Hillary Clinton to shunt moderate Republicans her way. A dastardly plan hatched between Hillary, Bill and Donald. Nothing would surprise me!
Bernie is the projected winner of WV!!!
ReplyDeletemike (again) ~ YAY!!!!! He won well too - around 51.6 to Clinton's 36 at 12 midnight.
ReplyDeleteMSNBC playing it down though - explaining (and repeating from earlier in the evening) how impossible it is for him to win....I care not. He won another state!
Hillary is feeling The Bern...LOL! It must be VERY annoying to her, as she is the presumptive primary winner at this point, but voters are choosing Bernie anyway. Likewise, Bernie's message is being heard and upheld. This is a good omen for the remaining states having primaries.
ReplyDeletemike (again) ~ Reading at Common Dreams just now I liked this comment there:
ReplyDeletehttp://commons.commondreams.org/t/sanders-wins-west-virginia-primary-and-no-its-not-inconsequential/22252/54
Commenter randlieb: From what I can gather as of today (after the WV vote) Hillary needs to win 74% of the delegates in the remaining states to win the nomination outright before the convention (this does not include super delegates). Here are the pertinent numbers:
Hillary has 1716 pledged delegates
Bernie has 1438 pledged delegates
897 pledged delegates still up for grabs
2383 total delegates needed to win the nomination
Looking at these numbers it is statistically impossible for Hillary to win the nomination with pledged delegates alone, thus the Hillary camp's wishful thinking for Bernie to drop out now. If she goes to convention she may not get the super delegate support she thinks she will. If the supers start looking closely at who has the best chance to beat Drumpf, we could see a different outcome altogether. Stay tuned Sandernistas!
Let's be clear about this right now....BERNIE DOES NOT NEED TO WIN THE NOMINATION BEFORE THE CONVENTION....HE JUST NEEDS TO MAKE SURE HILLARY DOES NOT HAVE THE NOMINATION IN HAND WITH PLEDGED DELEGATES. Once the convention starts, all bets are off
