This Tuesday's primaries, held on the date ancient Romans called The Ides of March, date of the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC. The death of Caesar made the Ides of March a turning point in Roman history, as one of the events that marked the transition from the historical period known as the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. Let's not go there!
The states voting today are coloured pale mauve on the map below: Florida, Ohio, Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri.
Dunno what to say anymore, except "GO GET 'EM BERNIE!" Paul Edwards' piece at The Smirking Chimp this weekend is a good read - for Bernie supporters.
Two snips:
I don't pray these days, but I send a heartfelt request the universe to please, please, protect Bernie and his people from here on. There is a whiff of madness in the air.

Even after Michigan, and unsavory Republican Neocons jumping ship to back Hillary over “Little Parts” Trump, the Dem Power Trust sticks to its lack of principle, to nominate a reliable corporate tool come Hell or high water.
And that’s what they’ll get. There’s a delicious parallel existing in politics now that might blow both wings of the Bankers’ Party up for good. As Repugs are trying to wrest their ethically moribund Party away from their foremost candidate, Dems are bent on making their rank and file swallow a slab of stale Marie Antoinette-style cake that it’s gagging at and rejecting.
One Party is mad to disengage from a candidate that may destroy it; and the other is wild to crown one that could have exactly the same effect on it.
It would all be great fun to follow if the long-term fate of the country we live in were not so horrifyingly at risk, but it is.......................................
You Criminal Syndicates have had it your way for generations. You’ve kept us ignorant, mesmerized and baffled, by lying and deceiving us, manipulating our fear and anger, and misdirecting them at bogus targets that never threatened us, and never mattered. You’ve kept us from the justice, domestic tranquillity, general welfare, and blessings of liberty our Constitution promised us. No more!
You have, at long last, as a reward for your exploitation and betrayal, lost our trust and our respect, and you will never regain it. You may hang on in some form, gutted and discredited, but know that you are no use to us now, or in the future. We expect nothing from you, and we want no more to do with you. If you doubt us, watch what happens. You’re about to find out.
I don't pray these days, but I send a heartfelt request the universe to please, please, protect Bernie and his people from here on. There is a whiff of madness in the air.
Well, the world keeps spinning and the Sun still rises in the east, regardless of the bizarre, inane, theatrics of American politics. This election season seems a reasonable outcome of the Uranus-Pluto square we've endured for the past several years, irrational as it may be, not to mention the almost-there Pluto return in the USA's natal chart (and it doesn't matter which solar or natal chart is chosen for this nation's birth).
ReplyDeleteThe Republicans (Repugs, as Paul Edwards calls 'em) have become Madame Defarge, with Trump as Marquis St. Evremonde.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way - in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."
"A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens
mike ~ Had to check my ephemeris - Feb 2022 will be the exact Pluto return for USA, so another election go-around will be needed to burst the abscess that's been gathering for decades - Pluto's the one to do it! Until then we shall experience varying discomforts.
ReplyDeleteBut...but...but...I wanted to be Madame Defarge! (She pouts)
I love that opening quote from "Tale of Two Cities"!
This morning I have on computer's media player my full CD version of musical version of "Les Miserables" - needed to hear it again and this seemed like a very good day to do it.
Tonight's results will be so important for Bernie. With a little bit of luck and a following wind he could win all but Florida and North Carolina from today's primaries...according to a couple of pundits I've read today.
Quinkydink...I had wanted to use the Thenardiers to symbolize the Republicans in my first comment, but couldn't think of an appropriate character from "Les Miserables" to represent Trump, so I used "A Tale of Two Cities", particularly with it's French Revolution theme.
ReplyDeleteI think there's plenty of room in our current revolution for another Madame Defarge, or at least someone with her excellent knitting abilities, Madame Twilight...LOL.
Yes, may the force be with Bernie.
There aren't any rules on this, so we can mix & match the metaphorical representations to free-up Madame Deforge for your own, personal use.
ReplyDeleteI change my first comment to:
The Repugs have become the Thenardiers, with Trump as Marquis St. Evremonde.
mike (again) ~ Oh goody! (Knit one, pearl one, slip one, pass the slipped stitch over.....getting limbered up here!)
ReplyDeleteGood casting there - Thenardiers and The Marquis !
Plucking another metaphorical cast list from the fairy tale ethers - Ted Cruz and Donald Trump as the Ugly sisters from Cinderella. We the People as Cinderella, and Bernie as Prince Charming! LOL!

ReplyDeleteRe - Pluto...according to Wiki, the American Revolution was 1765 to 1783. Pluto was 5* to 7* Capricorn in 1765, which were the same degrees of Pluto in 2010. Transiting Pluto is currently at 17* Capricorn, the degree Pluto was at in 1770-1771 (Boston Massacre). Currently, transiting Pluto will retrograde-station-forward within 1.5* opposition of USA's natal Sun at 13*19' Cancer, September, 2016, and will square natal Saturn in Libra. Transiting Saturn will be opposing USA's natal Sun December, 2018.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Hillary took N Carolina, Florida, and Ohio...not sure about Price Charming, but looks like he may take Missouri and Illinois.

ReplyDelete"Apple vs. FBI: Where We Are Now, and Where We’re Going"
"... At the end of the day, I sit here and look at the core questions that are on the table. Should the government have carte blanche rights to force anyone to work for them [Apple to assist the FBI under the All Writs Act]? Should the privacy of people’s entire past be subject to a warrant? Should people be allowed to have private conversations, private thoughts, private ideas – all things stored on people’s iPhones – subject to search by the government? I am honestly in shock, and saddened by the fact that any of these questions could be raised at all in this country. The fundamental construct of our constitution, and the basic human rights they were based on, have answered these questions for hundreds of years – a free society cannot live without privacy. A free society cannot live without freedom from tyranny. A free society cannot live without free speech, or under the fear that your speech and thoughts will be used to imprison you. The questions that the Department of Justice is posing, at the very core of the matter, are questions of whether or not we should be a free people. The very government that we founded to protect our liberties is now, in a very raw way, questioning them.
This should shock you. It should shock every American, and it is no doubt shocking the rest of the watching world. How can the freest country in the world, a beacon for those in oppressive countries, lay down their speech, their privacy, their identities over a dead terrorist’s iPhone? The shootings that took place in San Bernardino were horrible and flat out evil, and I mourned for the victims… but the greatest damage that Syed Farook stands to cause is to our country and our constitutional rights as a whole; giving up our rights will ultimately affect the liberty and safety of generations to come. Make no mistake about it – Syed Farook would be pleased to see this agenda being played out in the court system today. We should not be pleased. We should be indignant. We should be deeply offended. Offended that anyone would attempt to curtail rights that our families have died, and continue dying, to protect."
mike (again) ~ Ugh! This is not good! I'm gritting my teeth.
ReplyDeleteI'm telling myself that maybe THIS is the only way the universe can keep Bernie safe.
