Changing Generations and Cynical Smiles

I'll be waiting eagerly for the results of the New Hampshire primaries tonight. Bernie Sanders should have the advantage, Vermont, his state, and New Hampshire being next door neighbours. In this year of the unexpected, though, nothing will surprise me!

It's heartening that so many young people, those under 30, are drawn to Bernie Sanders' campaign. These people are not blinkered by political establishment's controlled spin via TV and newspapers. They form their opinions through peer to peer conversations on social media and reading on the internet in general. The Clinton machine might have overlooked this potential wave of opposition. Astrologically it ought not to have come as a great surprise. Look at these forecasts of "the generations" from E.Alan Meece's always absorbing book "Horoscope for the New Millennium". To save copy-typing I found the section of interest on this point online (link). Here are Mr Meece's relevant generational outlines for those now in their early to late 20s, and for some who are even younger, poised to add to a wave of change in coming years.

"The committed ones," 1988-1995 [now aged 21 to 28] (Generation Y-b) (Uranus conjunct Neptune in Capricorn, Pluto in Scorpio) This is a group with outstanding potential. It is a very precocious generation, but won't burn itself out in youth. They are steady, persistent, determined, ambitious and passionate. They have great talent in the arts, politics and organization, and they may be the great leaders who lay down lasting foundations for a new age of civilization. On the other hand, some might consider them too cold, calculating, rigid, worldly or obsessed with their own goals.

"The flame throwers," 1996-2003 [ now aged 13 to 20] (Generation Y-c) (Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in late Capricorn and Aquarius, Pluto in Sagittarius) This will be a very outgoing, irrepressible, exuberant generation, quick to question authority and convention. They will be brilliant intellectuals, inventors, reformers and propagandists.

"The universal free spirits," 2003-2010[now aged just 6 to 13] (Generation Z-a) (Uranus in Pisces, Neptune in Aquarius, Pluto in Sagittarius/early Capricorn) Their successors will be similar, but more easy-going, sensitive and poetic. They will follow the paths laid down by the previous two generations, but will show greater brilliance in the imaginative arts. As the first of Generation Z, they will teach compassion for Humanity as we all reach the "omega point" of universal human awareness after 2012.
[Long after 2012 as it happens!]

A video to raise a cynical smile or two. A commenter at YouTube remarked that it is some 15 years since the video was produced, but it feels as though it could have been made last week.

  1. LOL Darlene McBride...an intended parody that mimics the reality of our Republican Party. They are one sad mess of conservative angst.

I knew way back that Bernie had the Millennials' support for several reasons, with education being a major attraction, the carrot on the stick for a vote. Education is such an invaluable commodity for the individual, community, and nation, so I fully support Bernie's proposal. Johnson, another Virgo Sun, was the last president (1963-1969) to implement social improvements with his "Great Society" actions, which included educational opportunities...so much good came out of Johnson's efforts and he was severely criticized at the time.

I don't have the superlatives-only that Meece bestows upon the Millennials, as every generation has its strengths and weaknesses, and each individual within those years has their own astrological aspects coordinated with the Uranus-Neptune-Pluto framework, too. The post-1985 generations have a keen social, hierarchical awareness enhanced by digital mesmerism. I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I find it sad that so many youth prefer their digital toys over real interactions. A safe-secure ersatz representation of reality. Face-to-face interaction is not their thing and one can become an overnight sensation or an object of scorn by virtue of social media and its instantaneous "going viral" aspect. It seems that the notion of self-identity is too intertwined with the collective.

The post-1985 generations may be coming into their own as transiting Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto form squares and oppositions among the same natal planets. Saturn returns are occurring. I've not been that impressed with them, but perhaps the best is yet to come.

  2. mike ~ The carrot and stick of disappearing college fees is a part of it, but I hope it goes deeper than that. If not, then any optimism I'm feeling is misplaced.

I don't, personally, know many of the generations involved, so I can gather only from what I read.

The social media thing versus face-to-face interaction has advantages and disadvantages, only time will tell whether one outweighs t'other. In any case, face-to-face does still goes on, in tandem with social media...or so I'd suppose.

I hope the post-1985 generations will be sturdy enough to deal with what they'll be facing. I suspect they will.

  3. Gotta love this Millennial:

Feeling the Yern: Why One Millennial Woman Would Rather Go to Hell Than Vote for Hillary

If Millennials are coming out in droves to support Bernie Sanders, it's not because we are tripping balls on Geritol. No, Sanders's clever strategy of shouting the exact same thing for 40 years simply strikes a chord among the growing number of us who now agree: Washington is bought. And every time Goldman Sachs buys another million-dollar slice of the next American presidency, we can't help but drop the needle onto Bernie's broken record:

    The economy is rigged.

    Democracy is corrupted.

The billionaires are on the warpath.

Sanders has split the party with hits like these, a catchy stream of pessimistic populism. Behind this arthritic Pied Piper, the youth rally, brandishing red-lettered signs reading "MONEYLENDERS OUT." If you ask them, they'll tell you there's a special place in Hell for war criminals who launch hedge funds.

  4. I hate to be a Bernie party pooper, BUT 8 years ago these Millennials, etc. were talking non-stop about Obama being "young, new, one of us". Nancy Pelosi said "He's fresh", like he was a brand of deodorant. Truth was, as Majority Leader, she wanted to be the most powerful woman in Washington. Not do able with a female President. But I digress. The Obots are now supporting someone clearly not "young, new and one of us". Didn't work out the way they expected these last 8 years? I remember Bernie when he first became mayor of Burlington, VT. I used to ski in New England and Bernie fit right in with the "new" Vermont. The state was very Republican, very conservative and the least diverse state in the country. When my generation of counterculture types moved up there, the state turned Democratic and left of center but no less diverse. Bernie, Howard Dean et. al do very well in this type of environment, but the rest of the country is not as monolithic. I admire Bernie's principals but the Age of Aquarius is over. If Bernie does get the nomination, the Republican opposition research will slaughter him. One of the reasons the Republicans are attacking Hillary so hard is to get her out of the way and hope to run against Bernie. It won't be as bad as 1972, but you will have a Cruz, Rubio, Christie or our worst nightmare, Trump.

  5. Anonymous ~ First an astrological point, seeing that you mentioned it: the real Age of Aquarius has not yet arrived, and will not arrive in the lifetime of anyone now alive on planet Earth.

Yes, I've read the points you're bringing up, over and over in comment threads.

Whoever is the Dem nominee it'll be a hard and nasty fight. I realise this.

What Bernie is doing, as well as running for the position of President, is sowing seeds, firing up the long sleeping or apathetic populace sufficiently to begin a political revolution. This he repeats over and over. Whatever the result in November, however things proceed thereafter, he will have done, for the the people of the USA, a priceless, and I do hope not a thankless task. Whether he becomes President or simply continues as Senator or continues his work in some other capacity, his name should go down in the history books as someone who began (or renewed) the fight against oligarchy, the plutochracy, and the bought political establishment.

Nothing you can say will dishearten or detract me from supporting Bernie now, or whatever he'll do in the future. I've supported him long before his name was as well known as it now is - you can see this from my early posts about him starting in 2008, the first year I was eligible to vote in the USA. I came to the USA in 2004 from England and was shocked to find there was no proper Left in US politics. Now there is, and it's up to us to protect and retain it.

  6. Election and Inauguration charts for Bernie, Hillary, Trump. Not annotated. Movers and shakers are planets on or in aspect to the angles.

Why we must turn out and vote. And even a win by popular vote is no guarentee that the electoral college will seat our choice.

    http://www.archives.gov/federal-register/electoral-college/faq.html#no270

What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes?

If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most Electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

How is it possible for the electoral vote to produce a different result than the nation-wide popular vote?

“It is important to remember that the President is not chosen by a nation-wide popular vote. The Electoral College vote totals determine the winner, not the statistical plurality or majority a candidate may have in the nation-wide popular vote totals. Electoral votes are awarded on the basis of the popular vote in each state.”

“In a multi-candidate race where candidates have strong regional appeal, as in 1824, it is quite possible that a candidate who collects the most votes on a nation-wide basis will not win the electoral vote. In a two-candidate race, that is less likely to occur. But, it did occur in the Hayes/Tilden election of 1876 and the Harrison/Cleveland election of 1888 due to the statistical disparity between vote totals in individual state elections and the national vote totals. This also occurred in the 2000 presidential election, where George W. Bush received fewer popular votes than Albert Gore Jr., but received a majority of electoral votes.”

  7. Bob ~ Thank you for the charts and additional information. The electoral system here is a jungle! Lots of scary things can be hidden in a jungle.

I'm not expert enough to glean a prediction from the charts- what would you take from them - do you have a prediction? :-)

  8. The tri-wheel of Bernie's progressed solar return with his natal and transits around it seems to indicate Bernie being inaugurated as the MC and Asc receive only positive hard and soft aspects from the Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus. The same set for Hillary show nothing. I might be using a wrong chart for her (but it has held up beginning with her graduation speech right through the Iowa caucus). Trump has return Pluto on the Asc, natal Saturn-Pluto midpoint and progressed natal Saturn square the MC.

  9. Bob ~ Yay!!! That's good to know - thank you! Bernie has made a good by start winning NH tonight, and that close tie in Iowa! It'll be a harder job next stop, but not impossible.
