A short span again this week, it teeters around 1970. Previous episodes are at #1, #2, #3 and #4). In #4, I left myself in limbo, wandering around Lonely Corner, separated, unlikely to achieve divorce in the foreseeable future. I resolved to be pro-active.
One day, while picking up my newspaper and magazine from the newsagent's, I noticed a publication in the racks - The London Weekly Advertiser; I doubt it exists now, at least not in the form it was back in 1970. The publication was purely a forum for advertising items for sale, or services available around Britain - rather like a print version of E-bay or Craigslist. One section of the paper was dedicated to "Personal" adverts: people wanting to meet other people. Personal ads of this nature still exist, if not in print, then certainly on-line.
Should I? I bought the publication for several weeks before deciding yes, I should!
I wasn't about to respond to any adverts I'd found, but settled on drafting an ad of my own. I don't recall the exact wording but it included my age, gender, marital status, rough location, type of job I had, and type of friend I'd like to meet...oh, and my Sun sign. Wondering when astrology would rear its mystical head here were ya? I was at simple Sun sign level only at this point, so there'd be no astro-acrobatics!
I suspected that this escapade was all rather daring as I typed out my ad, but it was a while since I'd had an adventure. I sent it in, snail mail of course. It took a while to be published, even longer for replies to be posted back to me by the newspaper, who acted in place of a P.O. Box. I think I received around 8 or 9 replies in all. A few were discarded at once as being mildly objectionable or quite sweet but too obviously not my type. Eventually I was left with 3 letters which I reckoned merited a longer reply than the brief "thanks, but no thanks" type response.
By this time my "gung-ho" was rapidly gung-ing off. I wrote 3 nice letters back to the short-list, decided that should be that, and began thinking about a Plan B.
I'd underestimated the persistence of one of the responders. He wrote back in reply to mine - I replied, again, that I'd changed my mind about the whole idea of meeting someone in this way. He wrote back - yet again. His handwriting was very attractive, nice writing style, sounded warm and sincere. He excused himself for being "a Taurus", asked me not to discard him on that reason alone. We corresponded for several weeks. He was living in the south of England, though by birth was Northern Irish, was quite a lot older than me, and asked me not to discard him solely on that account either. I decided he seemed interesting enough to be checked out on a quick day trip to London, using the fastest trains available. Setting out early I could just about make it there and back in a day, with a tiny bit of time to spare in the city.
He was waiting for me at King's Cross station. I still remember what he was wearing: dark green corduroy jacket, khaki slacks. Back then I always loved corduroy jackets for men. His jacket had a lot to answer for! There wasn't much time to see the sights, and I wasn't much interested in them anyway at that point. We spent some time in Piccadilly Square, ate a sandwich, chatted...about what? I don't recall. He had a wonderful, softly cultured, Northern Irish accent. I liked him. He asked that we, at least, remain friends. We did. And what's more, eventually spent the next 32 years together, 'til death us did part - though nobody ever declared those words over us in a marriage ceremony.
To be continued.

oh you bratty thing~!! how could leave me hanging like this..
ReplyDeleteat least tell us his rising and moon sign..:) pretty please..
again, I am so tickled to read this. I'm saving each one to read again all at one time.
thank you~!!
and yes I'll be back:) to share
Sonny ~ I don't really want to get into the astrology. His time of birth wasn't known, so rising sign and Moon uncertain. According to Robert Camp (whose book on relationships I think you know of), he was Queen of Clubs to my King of Clubs. :-)
ReplyDeleteohhhh I see... I love that book:)
ReplyDeleteI am the 6 of Hearts . The Peacemaker
Well, no idea what card I am in the great card-deck of life! I'm impressed, Twilight! You hooked a Taurus Sun...a slow, methodical, thought-out, doesn't like change, Taurus. From his perspective, your Aquarius Sun must have seemed exotic, perplexing, and incorrigibly detached. You both had fixity...LOL! I see that Saturn was in Taurus around that time and in opposition to Jupiter in Scorpio...Jupiter would have been conjunct your natal Venus, too (in your 5th house?). I'm always surprised how something rather simple, yet out of the way act like your placing an advertisement, can lead to radical change(s). Way to go, Twilight!
ReplyDeleteI once responded to a personal ad for the lovelorn...this was back in the late 1980s, pre-internet. It had consequences and ramifications that were unanticipated. The guy turned-out to be a jerk. He presented himself as single, but wasn't; he lived with his mate. I finally caught-on and dumped the dude. He called several months later asking if I would attend a Yuwipi ceremony at the Lakota reservation to assist him in his effort to "find his health" (Yuwipi). He had AIDS and had developed lymphoma. Another strike against him...undisclosed AIDS diagnosis. I was taken aback by his request, but at the time, I was thinking of methods to diminish my ego...sounds strange I'm sure...so I took this one on and assisted him, though I found him vile at that point. I paid my own expenses.
I've written about this experience in some post a year or two ago, so I won't go in-depth here. I basically did my part for this guy. I was utterly fascinated by the Yuwipe ceremony...rather like entering an alternative universe. It was at the very conclusion of the five-day ceremony that four of us fellows that were essentially the support crew were given a special "turtle" (sweat-lodge) from the shaman. About fifteen minutes into the sweat, the shaman began speaking to one of the fellows, guiding him on his journey...it seemed like utter nonsense to me, as nothing tangible had changed within the hut. The shaman then proceeded to direct another fellow, then another. I remember listening to each of these over a duration of perhaps an hour, then I noticed a very small beam of moonlight coming in through a tiny hole in the hut's covering. My last thoughts were of becoming one with the Moon and consequently the entirety of the universe (best word to use here, but not accurate). No idea how long I was dissociated from my consciousness, but I eventually heard the shaman calling me back and that concluded our final sweat! The four of us left the "turtle" and began discussing our visions with each other and it was obvious we each had quite a journey...a gift from the shaman. That night, as I was falling to sleep and starting to dream, the last I remember was a giant rock coming at me, eventually the rock had a mouth that swallowed me...my very last recollection of that night.
Most oddly, the next morning, which was the day of departure, the guy I assisted with lymphoma, his giant lump on his shoulder-neck area had diminished to a fraction of its size! Most amazing! His instruction from the shaman were to assist anyone asking for his assistance...or else. This fellow was extremely self-centered, so I have my doubts whether he was successful in maintaining his cure. Once we returned to Boston, I purposely never was in contact with him again. I don't know how his story ended.
Interestingly, the events during the five-day Yuwipe ceremony brought-out my ego! Upon returning to Boston, I realized it was best to keep my ego-ness intact...LOL.
Sonny ~ Nice card! :-)
ReplyDelete:-)
ReplyDeletemy daughter is the Jack of Clubs Annie. we get along excellently. she didnt even dislike me when she was a teen lol.. we are more like buddies than Mother and Daughter..
now we have to figure out what Mike and AnyJazz are...
mike ~ 5 Nov, I think for you - so 2 of Diamonds "The Wheeler dealer Card" - doesn't sound much like you does it? Anyjazz is Ace of Diamonds "Desire for Love & Money" - first maybe not second - much! You and I are supposed to have had a "loving relationship" in a past life by the way LOL!!
ReplyDeleteYou could not be more wrong about how Bill's Taurus Sun performed, mike! He was not slow or methodical - he was yer born risk-taker, maverick, change came as easily to him as washing his hands, could, and did turn his hand to just about anything. He was on the Gemini cusp, which must have had something to do with it. I suspect his Moon, like mine was in Aries. That's as far as I'll go with his astrology. He's one person whose Sun sign didn't fit, except that Taurus is Venus-ruled, planet of the arts and he was quite a good artist, liked to do portraits. He loved (and hated) with equal intensity, was 110% loyal to me always...that was his Fixed Taurus bit, I guess.
Wowser! Your story of your experiences with the Yuwipe ceremony is jaw-dropping, and a wee bit scary! Thanks so much for contributing it.
ops Annie answered before I got my comment posted .
ReplyDeletenot sure about cusps but I know one thing for certain, I am not very much CAP and folks find it hard to believe even when I tell them. However, I have noticed Caps are attracted to me and I have had many in my life.
now back to you and Mike in a former life.. wow baby, that'll be a story to hear- giggle ..
oh by the way, have I mentioned I've been married 5 times.. now seriously - how Cappie is that?? NOT~!
I looked everywhere for my Love Cards book and cant find it..
ReplyDeleteoff to amazon see if I can buy one.
Sonny ~ I have the big book "Love Cards" on my knee as I type, open at page 342 "The Spiritual Spread" - I'm not clear on what it is BUT on one line horizontally
ReplyDeleteit goes like this:
2 Diamonds (mike)... Ace Diamonds (anyjazz)...King Clubs (me)...Queen Clubs (Bill)...
Jack Clubs (your daughter) then 10 clubs and 9 Clubs and the planet for that line is Jupiter.
Your 6 Hearts is in the line associated with Mercury, with 7 other Heart cards (Ace to 7).
Sonny ~ 5 times! Dang girl! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAnnie,
ReplyDeletejust your opinion and NO I wont hold ya responcible lol..
I am at the 7 thunders site and they have a web edition-- the pro one looks like the best deal.. you type in anyone's bday and get it gives you all the info/cards I mean and the explanations.. also does compatibility.. I remember from having the book it would take me a day to get all that info together- this takes about 3 minutes.
so what say you- yea or nay.. book or software?
I can't say that I've ever been accused of being a shrewd operator, but thanks for the label...LOL. I knew we had a connection, Twilight!
ReplyDeleteI said that your Venus was in Scorpio...as you know: wrong. It's your Mars, which would have been opposed his Sun. Yes, his Gemini cuspiness must have dampened the Taurus. I've known a number of mid-sign Taurus Suns and they've all been readily identifiable via some form(s) of ostensible stubbornness, including commitment to objectives.
ReplyDeletehere's what it says you get...
just wanna make sure about it..

Sonny - That comment should have read "Dang, girl! (exclamation) Not dang girl - as a description of you - lol - sorry! :-)
ReplyDeletePersonally I like the book, I know nothing about the detailed software - but years ago I looked into Camp's website, and preferred the book to what was available there then. Somehow, in using the book it allows one's own intuition to add to what's there. If the software is expensive I'd be inclined to go for the book, for now - you might find a used copy at Amazon or E-bay, cheaper than new. As with astrology, I reckon the Camp system can be taken too far. It's eerily accurate in some things but a bit off in others, I've found. Like straight astrology, there's something there - just not everything. It's supposed to be based on astrology and numerology, from some ancient system.
mike ~ so...I guess we should be saying "Well - hello - again, fancy meetin' you here!" LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy maternal grandmother was born a day before Bill and was much more "Taurean textbook", but she married a Sun Gemini so there must have been a wee bit of compatibility. Grandmother and I were always very close. My own natal Uranus (modern ruler of Aquarius Sun) is in Taurus along with (conjunct) South Node of Moon - that might have helped.
my 2nd husband was a taurus with a gemini moon.. april 26th. never did know his rising sign. Nice fellow but sorta clingy:) always asking where I was , where I was going, how long I'd be gone, who I talked to or saw while I was gone.. sheesh:( He was kind and loyal though and taught me to conserve and spend my money wisely.
ReplyDeletehubby 1 Virgo--dunno
hubby 2 Taurus - gemini moon
hubby 3 Scorpio with a leo rising -gemini moon- lasted the longest
hubby 4 Aries- omg he was so much fun~!
hubby 4 Leo - leo rising- gemini moon - lasted 2nd longest
all good men by the way. I was never abused and much loved..
what was wrong-- was Me.
I was great at dating and very loyal but dang, soon as the papers were signed I started to feel my chest tighten up , in an emotional sense. Felt like I could'nt breath and very TRAPPED.. Those feelings made for some not very pleasant behavior on my part. Then the guilt for the bad behavior would set in and I could'nt take that so I'd say-- no more- I want a divorce.. sometimes when I think of the hurt I caused it makes me physically ill. I hope they all have forgiven me and went on to have a wonderful life with someone who cherished them ..

s'ok Annie bout the dang girl lol I knew what ya meant.
so ya'll are all on the jupiter line and I'm stuck over there in Mercury all by my lil lonesome self huh.. sorta like being the step child here lol..

I found both the Love Cards and Destiny Cards books on amazon but a fav used seller I have bought from before. Both are to arrive by tuesday evening the notification said.
I'll let them be a early Happy Birthday to me present..
Sonny ~ So...you tried Earth, Water and Fire partners - didn't try Air though - that'll have to be Number 6!
ReplyDeleteYou and I, according to Camp, have a primary Mars connection - find one another stimulating...etc.
There are lists of multiple connections though -as you probably remember. I've never truly got to grips with the finer points of Camp's system - especially in the Destiny Cards book - which I seem to have lost - or sent to Goodwill!
What I find amazing is that some validity can be seen in this system from using day and month only.
my very first "real boyfriend" was an aquarius , as was the one I had from 2008 to 2011, his name was Mike and he had a massive heart attack on his boat and he couldnt get back to the dock in time. He called in to say he felt ill and was headed in and could they please have medical there for him. Rest in Peace, Mike.
ReplyDeleteholy craptiods~! dont even say 6 .. nooooooooooooooooooo
the cards are right , I do find you stimulating and dang it- I just plain LIKE you.

Sonny - why do you need software when it's available online for free?
Twilight - Does the book not require a year of birth?
ReplyDeleteMike,
because the book// software has lots of extra stuff, like what Annie was saying about connections to other people/ via their card..
Annie can explain it better.
ps- you're ceremonial experience sounds amazing.. wow
here's mine 6 of hearts:: Mike-- yours in below mine..
ReplyDeleteSix of Hearts Birth Card
Six of HeartsAll Sixes have a particular significance and mission in life. Six is the Double Trinity, - the divine is reflected in the human. Number Six is the number of Soul. It stands for beauty, harmony, order and completion, - the "Law and Order." Having this birthday means that you have a passion for everything being in the right place. You are a natural diplomat who needs involvement with others where you can share you warm charm, intuitive intellect, and the friendly responsibility of well-being of others. If Six misses inner realization of their definite purpose in life, they develop selfishness and lack of initiative.
Six of Hearts represents the Law of The Love - the Christ principle, which itself entails sacrifice and selflessness. They are the most stable and dependable of all Sixes. They are emotional and affectionate but emotionally intense. No one can sweep them off their feet. They have good mental balance and good judgment, if they practice it.
For Six of Hearts, love for home is essential, and when it's established they want keep it forever. There is a tendency to be rather easy-going, and the love of ease, comfort, and harmony often makes them stay away from life that involves a struggle. Practicing and teaching the law of love can bring them the highest satisfaction in anything they do. They know how to love, how to give in order to be loved.
Six of Hearts usually have no difficulties in making money, but might be worried they will not have enough for complete satisfaction. They want to look prosperous and communicate with people of means. Partnership in business is important but must watch out sharing financial interest with others. They have set in their own sense of values and will not change it.

Mike's
Two of Diamonds Birth Card
Two of DiamondsTwos represent Union - the Father-Mother principle, and so stands for cooperation and associations. It is important for the Two Of Diamonds to be given a good start. There should be someone when they are young to support, advise and encourage.
The Two of Diamonds have a gift of intuition, and if used, they don't make mistakes in life. If principles are held, the success is assured, even though there is always some concern about money, as in the case of all cards in a Diamond suit. The Two of Diamonds birth card is the best for physicians, because they can diagnose very well, using their gift of intuition. If not concerned with medicine, they have great power of healing - whether or not it recognized or used.
The Two of Diamonds always seeks a way to communicate and cooperate with people, through messaging and phone calls, or interviews. Internet networking, blogging, marketing can become a successful business strategy. There is a power available in any activity they choose, - a position of leadership and authority, extending to social life. As diamonds, they know what things and people are worth, and they choose their companions and partners through their understanding of values.
The Two of Diamonds are positive and confident. They don't scream or yield in an argument. They may become overly satisfied with their life situation, so they forget to work on principles that give them a key to higher accomplishments.
The Two of Diamonds need some positive form of expression that will bring out their true worth and allow use it for the universal benefit. They make excellent traders and merchants.
It is very favorable influence in real estate deals, especially land, farms, etc. The Two of Diamonds are highly successful in investments. But in any occupation they choose, the position of authority usually acquired. They have an unusual ability to deal with personnel and any labor problems.
Thanks, Sonny! I like the 2 of Diamonds that you provided compared to "wheeler-dealer"...LOL. Yours seems fitting, too.
ReplyDeletemike ~ No, the book doesn't require a year of birth, never. the whole thing is based on day and month only. That's what makes it so weird. I've often said that astrology is like a board game - but this way it's like a card game! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe history of playing cards is mysterious - did a brief post on it once;
http://twilightstarsong.blogspot.com/2007/01/mystery-playing-cards-and-astrology.html
here's what yours says Annie from the new card site- same premise though..
ReplyDelete**********************************************************************************
Kings are associated with Number Thirteen (13) - The Number of Love and Unity, and among the wiser ones, these qualities, together with their number, were held to be sacred. All Kings are the Jacob of the Bible: the founders and fathers of the twelve tribes who were entrusted the children to the source of All Good. Kings are usually the most sympathetic and understanding people. They know subconsciously that power depends upon cooperation, and whatever life they lead, their best work done in partnership. They always have a sense of authority, but it seldom leads to domination.
The King of Clubs people hold their power by knowledge. Mental development is the best way to progress. By nature, the King of Clubs is spiritually minded, argumentative and aggressive. They need to work in association with others, exchanging ideas, learning in discussions, succeeding in making agreements and unions. Their brain can handle tons of data, records, papers, messages, and there is a possibility to lose themselves in details, and dive into the rut of routine. King of Clubs are progressive and should live up to the expectation. From the time to time, they must give themselves a shot from over-satisfaction in the name of progress.
The King of Clubs have a gift of fluent writing, and they make money through their efforts. You can't call to their patience if being too slow can highly irritate their restless mind. Real estate, law, bonds and stock are the fields, where they can combine their inner desire for security with their ability to make constant changes, or travel.
One significant aspect that plays the key role in the King of Clubs life is the partnerships. Success relates to their ability to work well with others, but they should stay away from putting too much responsibility on their partners.
The King of Club's mission is to contribute to the progress of our civilization, and through the recognition of wisdom and the refusal of self-indulgence and pleasures, they can become the greatest teachers and spiritual leaders - the master rulers of the human kind.
Sonny ~ thanks for that, but... goodness me! I don't recognise much of myself - maybe I can see a mere very faint shadow of some of what's written there in moi. If only I were all of that I wouldn't be sittin' here writing a blog, I'd be out there puttin' the world to rights. ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt appears to be a complete re-writing, some, but not all exactly same as what's in the book. Also in the book it says King of Clubs is the most psychic card in the deck - so much so that their intuitive approach to life is second nature........(Yes, sort of!)
What impresses me most has always been the relationship delineations of this system.
Although my first marriage proved to be "all wrong", according to this he (27 Sept, 10 Hearts) and I had a strong Venus bond (past life again), and high level of attraction and compatibility, though a minus 1 rating for intensity. So though it didn't work - it seems there was some initial "rightness" involved. We perhaps should've remained friends not marriage partners!
