The anniversary. No need for me to define it further. I've tried to find something appropriate to Arty Farty Friday. There's this tale of a possible premonition, I hadn't come it across before.
(Click on any of the images below for larger versions.)The chilling chalk drawing of planes, the Twin Towers and a traumatised girl that has been hanging on a Scottish office wall since the 1980s
There's more, in similar vein HERE.

ReplyDeleteI still shudder when I think about that otherwise beautiful morning. I'd been talking to my cousin who lived in Manhatten just an hour before it happened.
American Express lost 11 workers that morning and so she and I speak often of how lucky she was to work at one of the other locations downtown, as did her brother in law. My own daughter also worked for AE but in Greensboro nc.. All locations worked with a skeleton crew for the next several days.
In all I had 26 people living in that area, aunts uncles cousins and lifelong friends. Those folks are made of sturdy stock and didn't panic but were horrified and of course frightened for all their own extended family, friends and coworkers.
It was spring of 2003 before I could bring myself to go there for a visit.
Its become so common for NY folks to move to NC to retire and I often speak to people who have personal memories of that day..
It was the thing we thought could never happen, but it did and we will never Forget~!
Here's an interesting biography about Rick Rescorla, British, a fellow that correctly identified both the basement bombing, then the air assault of the towers long before their eventuality:
ReplyDelete"As the director of security for the financial services firm Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Center, Rescorla anticipated both attacks on the towers and implemented evacuation procedures credited with saving many lives. He died in the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001, while leading evacuees from the South Tower."

Life is full of these types of quinkydinks. Are our lives predetermined? Is there free will? Astrologer John Townley often writes that the future is constantly pulling the past and present toward it...the future is the determinant force. If one believes in astrology, it's obvious that the astrology of the future can be viewed by looking at future transits, and these coalesce with our present to propel the moment forward.
September 11, 2001, has forever changed the American cultural, political, legal, and martial fabric. That event allowed Americans to be held hostage by our own fears and insecurities, to which the loss is so great that it has no quantifiable definition.
Sonny ~ Thank you for sharing your memories with us.
ReplyDeletemike ~ Thanks - yes that is an interesting bio of Rick Rescorla. What a powerhouse of a man he must have been! I quickly pulled up a natal chart for him to discover whether I could identify any "power source" - he had a Pluto-Mars opposition (Plu 29 Cancer, Mars 00 Aquarius) with squares from both to Saturn at 26 Aries. T-square of power?
ReplyDeleteJupiter at 2 Aries sextile Mars. North node 7 Scorpio. Uranus conjunct Mercury in Taurus. Sun 5 Gemini, trining Mars.
I suppose Rescorla's foresight was as much to do with his skill for risk-assessment rather than out and out premonition - probably a bit of both going on. I guess a talent for risk-assessment has elements of psychic ability embedded in it - maybe.
Re your last paragraph - yes indeed, the personality of the nation, and its government, seemed to change from that day forward.
I'm sure his Mars-Saturn-Pluto T-square was a powerhouse! Mars and Saturn in mutual reception and in square aspect. Mars rules Aries and co-rules Scorpio, Pluto co-rules Scorpio, and both in opposition. I'm sure he was assertive. Wiki stated he insisted on the repetitive fire drills, even with upper management's pressure to stop them...LOL. I think this aspect could provide the keen insight of a detective, too, finding potential flaws and discrepancies. His Mercury-Uranus conjunction in practical Taurus, trine Neptune in analytical Virgo, may have provided him with unusual and uncanny insight into mundane matters. He employed these aspects nicely into his eventual military service, education, and career. A good example of taking some potentially difficult aspects and making lemonade.

I'm always intrigued by individuals like Rescorla, whose lives are finely orchestrated sequences of events, leading to a crescendo of sacrifice, yielding a tremendous corrective course of events for others.
ReplyDeleteRescorla's life was directed to this moment (from the above Wiki link):
"Between songs, Rescorla called his wife, telling her, 'Stop crying. I have to get these people out safely. If something should happen to me, I want you to know I've never been happier. You made my life.' After successfully evacuating most of Morgan Stanley's 2,687 employees, he went back into the building."
mike (again x2) ~ Yes he certainly made planety (lol... I meant to type plenty, but shall leave that typo in) lemonade in a variety of flavours!
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the part you've quoted at the end of (again 2) I wondered whether it was a form of almost certainly successful suicide. He maybe didn't wish to face the sure decline in his heath that was waiting for him, due to the bone marrow disease. He could not have chosen a more courageous way, if that was so.
