"Human" went right by me in 2008...I was preoccupied the first decade of the 2000s. If not for your comment, I'd never have known the song or group existed...LOL. I viewed the Wiki page and it states, "In 2014, it ["Human"] was voted the "weirdest lyric of all time" by a Blinkbox survey."

ReplyDeleteIt was fun looking into the various interpretation of the lyrics, both here in comments and elsewhere online.
The lyrics are a mix of an Hunter S. Thompson suicide theme and the question of whether we have free will (human) or are somehow predestined puppets (dancers) - my eventual conclusion on meaning.
Led me to some interesting reading about Hunter S. Thompson anyway.

I know a large part of what stirs me is the youth of most of the performers on these shows and sometimes the material, as in this little angels case.
Bob ~ I remember Jackie Evancho winning America's Got Talent, yes - a modern prodigy for sure. I have seen videos of the other wee singers - they are in the same category too.

ReplyDeleteMuch of the sound being offered as music today is not even music at all and the lyrics not anything resembling poetry. Of course it is a broad arc that the musical pendulum swings. Our modern popular music includes such masterpieces as “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window” and “Music Box Dancer”, “The Boxer” and “Cat in the Cradle”, “Your Feet’s Too Big” and “Gimme a Pigfoot”, “Mommy’s Little Monster” and “Kill the Poor” but where any one of us fits on the musical arc is a matter of preference. The reasons for that “preference” are getting too complex to think about.
