The Scaffold were a comedy, poetry and music trio from Liverpool, England, consisting of Mike McGear (real name Peter Michael McCartney, the brother of Paul McCartney), Roger McGough and John Gorman.
If any passing reader has listened to the above song and wonders, "what's the Aintree Iron?" Nobody knows for sure. Numerous possibilities have been provided by commenters HERE, there's even a comment from Mike McGear/McCartney bimself; but by the end of the thread one is no nearer to knowing the truth. As Aintree is the part of Liverpool where the famous horse race course is located, I suspect Aintree Iron relates, in some way or other, to that.
Anyway, my own "thank you very much" goes today to all who read and/or comment here - y'all are much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate you and this blog so very much also Annie.
Happy Thanksgiving to You and Anyjazz and Mike and LB and all those who comment here..
Gobble, gobble! Same back at you, Sonny and all others. Thank you for your service, Twilight!

What if our religion was each other?
If our practice was our life?
If prayer was our words?
What if the temple was the Earth?
If forests were our church?
If holy water- the rivers, lakes and oceans?
What if meditation was our relationships?
If the Teacher was life?
If wisdom was self-knowledge?
If love was the center of our being?
a poem by Ganga White
Sonny and mike ~ Thank you both, and for all your contributions to Learning Curve OTE.
ReplyDeleteI hope you both have the kind of day you like best for this Holiday. It'll by my 11th Thanksgiving here, it still all seems a bit strange and "alien" to me, in spite of the fact that the concept of giving thanks, that lies at the Holiday's heart, is such a valuable and welcome one.
We'll be joining husband's daughter, son-in-law, family and friends, late afternoon, for a general get together and a meal. Weather is behaving itself here for once - bright but still chilly.
mike (again) ~ Manson and Cosby - I suppose Manson's having a brief karma- break (a bit like a coffee break?) and Cosby may be, maybe, possibly, just about to meet his own karma, with no break on the immediate horizon.
ReplyDeleteManson & Cosby are reminders that life is toooooooo strange!
ReplyDeleteRIP PD James
I'm not typically a murder mystery reader, so I've never read James. I didn't read or see her dystopian novel or movie version of "Children of Men". Did you, Twilight?

mike (again) ~ I haven't read any P.D. James either. I did see "Children of Men" though, not at the cinema but on HBO I think, some years ago now...or maybe, more likely, we rented the DVD. I mainly remember it because of Clive Owen's performance; detail of the plot is hazy now. I thought I'd mentioned it in a post but search turned up nothing.
ReplyDeleteI'd previously only seen Clive Owen in TV in a series called "Chancer" back in the UK - a decent enough series. I was quite impressed seeing Owen in this, very different, light. He has done some other good work since too.
Sonny - I left a comment on your blog, but I used "openID" and I don't think it processed. I refuse to obtain an account for these blogs due to cookies and tracking (that darn NSA thing). Twilight's doesn't require more than my name in the "name/URL" and "anonymous" is also a choice. Maybe you received my comment and you moderate, but I don't think so.
ReplyDeleteso sorry Mike. I am uncertain as to how to make the needed changes for others to comment.
ReplyDeleteI think that's why I said ya'll could go take a peek and comment HERE. instead..
thanks for looking.
anyway we had a great time and folks left with big smiles and full tummies:)
ReplyDeleteMike,
I found it in my settings:)
should'nt give you any trouble in the future.
clicked on All in the comments section and saved that setting to my blog.. Please dont feel you have to go back and comment again. I'm just happy to know you stopped by.
Sonny - I made two more attempts, one using "name/URL", then "anonymous", but I don't think they published, unless you moderate comments first.
ReplyDeletenot sure now what to do Mike.
