LOOK IN

Something interesting to peruse -

A collection of wonderful satirical illustrations by Pawel Kuczynski - there are even more from the same artist around the net. Three samples:

ALSO this video: an invention with great possibilities, if not now, then later.

And...Spurious Correlations offers several chuckle-worthy correlations. I don't know how factual these are, but they're fun. Think how many of these we might be able to construct using astrological stuff....if we had some useful data that is.

Finally...I noticed this vintage photograph among husband's collection at Flickr and for some reason, with tongue in cheek, the planets sprang to mind. "Why?" I hear a passing reader ask.

Look - The sun has got his hat on (front right), Moon in the dark above looks outward ready to move quickly. At centre back - cannot miss Saturn standing adamantly straight, unmoved and sure. To Saturn's left there's Jupiter always ready for a journey, scanning the route.
Next to the Sun are sweet pretty Venus, and open-mouthed Mercury. To Mercury's right - has to be Mars looking determined and a bit grim. The two young outliers to left and right have to be Uranus on the left and Neptune almost too far out to see on the right. (Click on image for a bigger version.) See?

  1. Very clever, Twilight.:) Mercury with his mouth open - LOL! The dark-haired young man staring directly into the camera to the left of Mercury might be Pluto though. He looks pretty intense.

  2. A pleasing, eclectic post today, Twilight!

The Kuczynski art is timeless and timely.

The solar energy-producing inlays are wonderful. I saw recently that a company is close to marketing a paint-like coating that produces solar energy...perfect for the outside of homes. Most unfortunate that we have a consortium led by the Koch bros that are blocking efforts:

"For the last few months, the Kochs and other big polluters have been spending heavily to fight incentives for renewable energy, which have been adopted by most states. They particularly dislike state laws that allow homeowners with solar panels to sell power they don’t need back to electric utilities. So they’ve been pushing legislatures to impose a surtax on this increasingly popular practice, hoping to make installing solar panels on houses less attractive."

Note that the article states that OK just passed a solar usage surcharge.

Excellent casting of the planets in the group photo, Twilight! Did Pluto, ruler of the masses and invisible, take the photo?

  3. I forgot to mention the correlations...I enjoy correlations that don't make sense! In my previous life performing process development, statistical process control was used. Always amazed me that parameters-variables would often correlate with outcomes, yet there was no tangible cause-effect. That doesn't necessarily mean the cause-effect didn't exist, but perhaps the incorrect variables were utilized. And, as your link indicates, sometimes there simply isn't a correlation even when there is a high degree of statistical assurance.

In some PBS NOVA program I watched, it was stated that only humans have the ability to correlate almost anything and everything...and react to those correlations regardless of true or false correlation. We are having one of those moments now with global warming. And I suppose that giving-up freedoms for personal safety is another.

  4. LB ~ He does look intense enough for Pluto, but he's not far out enough; Pluto would have to be out there somewhere, maybe waving from the next county. ;-)

  5. mike ~ Glad you liked 'em.

Those danged Kochs! Yes, and Oklahoma is on the cutting edge of insane regression as usual! Grrrrr!

Pluto might well have taken the photo using a very powerful lens, from far away, yes! :-)

  6. mike (again) ~ Correlations, coincidences, synchronicities - all have a veil of mystery about them don't they? We're never quite sure, never 100% confident, that there isn't "something else" going on, just beneath the surface. %-/

  7. mike (again)~ And the next thing I read at Salon just now a piece about CNN correlating the Bergdahl release thing with the TV series "Homeland" and its character Nick Brody - a recent post about the show is is at

    http://twilightstarsong.blogspot.com/2014/04/and-then-hero-comes-along-or-maybe-not.html

Salon piece also mentions a correlation CNN made to the disappearance of MH370 and the TV show "Lost" (which I haven't seen).

Both correlations are in pretty bad taste, yet it is sometimes amazing how life sometimes follows art - even loosely.

  8. An insightful essay by Dennis Elwell:

    http://www.skyscript.co.uk/elwell3.html

" ... When we realize the heavens are engaged in backwards causation - that circumstances are all the time being shaped by the pull of the future - we can begin to see what destiny means, astrologically. We are not stamped at birth with our destiny, nor even our personality - there is no imprinting - but, being the person we are, we are born at a time that announces who we are. Our destiny may be indicated at birth, but its realization lies in the future - indeed tragically it may never find complete fulfillment. It is a pity that the idea of destiny has almost completely slipped from human consciousness, thanks to the propaganda that physical causation is the only causation in town, so that everybody must look to the past for meanings. The answers must lie in the genes, or in the childhood situation, and so on. Some of the answers may indeed be found there, but the true significance of our journey - like all journeys - lies in where we are going, not where we are coming from. Aristotle wrote in the fourth century BC that the 'nature of man is not what he was born as, but what he is born for.' And I like this quotation from Nietzsche: 'Our destiny exercises its influence over us even when, as yet, we have not learned its nature: it is our future that lays down the law of our today.' ... "

  9. Beautiful interesting unsually reality-seeing and reality-seeking pictures indeed....

  10. mike (again)~ Oh yes! I'd forgotten about Dennis Elwell. I shall go read the full essay when I'm more "awake", after coffee knocks on my brain's door.

I took a look at Wiki's page on him and remembered a few things. Also there's a Garry Phillipson interview with him at Skyscript, including natal chart.

    http://www.skyscript.co.uk/elwell.html

A look at his chart confirmed by thought that he's a very Neptuney astrologer. A Yod with Mars and Uranus in sextile, Neptune at apex.
:-) His Mars conjoins my Sun by 1 degree too.

Thanks for reminding me about him - I shall investigate further.

That "backward causation" idea has all manner of possibilities too!

  11. ex-Chomp ~ Those paintings by Pawel Kuczynski are great aren't they! He has such clear insight!
