Four individuals listed below were born between 1849 and 1861 (when Neptune was last transiting Pisces) with Neptune close to their ascendant degree. It's not hard to spot similarities in their chosen life paths is it?
My software wasn't too helpful with French place names, I had to find the nearest town to some birth places, but charts as shown will be accurate enough for the purpose of discovering prominent Neptune in Pisces. Data came from either astro.com or astrotheme.
Anthelme Nizier Philippe, also known as "Maître Philippe" or "Maître Philippe de Lyon" born on April 25, 1849 in Le Rubathier, Loisieux, Savoy, France, son of a peasant couple. He gained a reputation as a healer by the age of thirteen. He married Jeanne Julie Landar (1859–1939)in 1877, had a daughter, Jeanne Marie Victoire born on 11 November 1878. She died on 29 August 1904 aged 25. He refused to heal her, saying that it was Heaven's wish that she should go on ahead, and predicted the precise course of her illness and death. "This death," he said, "has for me been a living crucifixion."
He soon gained a reputation as a miracle worker amongst Paris occultists. Having been harassed for practicing medicine without a license, he went to St Petersburg where he was awarded his Doctor's Diploma in recognition of extraordinary feats of remote healing conducted in St Petersburg.
Charles Lancelin, born January 4, 1852 in Dreux, died in 1941, was a French physician and occultist who was an early experimenter in the field of astral projection, also known as out-ofthe-body travel. He published a number of important books in the active period of French interest in occultism that preceded World War II.
Thomas H. Burgoyne, an astrologer and founder of the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, was born April 14, 1855. Spontaneously psychic, he claimed that as a child he came into contact with the Brotherhood of Light, a group of discarnate, advanced beings who attempt to guide the destiny of humankind. Today that group continues as the Church of Light. At a later date he met a M. Theon, purported to be an earthly representative of the brotherhood who taught Burgoyne about the Brotherhood.Burgoyne moved to the United States around 1880 and soon afterward his writings began to appear in various periodicals.
Victor Stanislas de Guaita, born on 6 April 1861 at 07:00 AM , Chateau de Alteville, France.
French poet based in Paris, an expert on esotericism and European mysticism, and an active member of the Rosicrucian Order, celebrated and successful in his time. He was an expert on magic and occultism. He had many disputes with other people who were involved with occultism and magic. Occultism and magic formed a part of his novels. His main work was "The Key to Black Magic."
Some interesting individuals, Twilight!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting to note that Uranus and Pluto were conjunct in Aries about this time, too...which also means these two planets had just sojourned through Pisces prior to Neptune's entry to Pisces. These combined astrological influences greatly influenced culture. This era was a "happening time" and must have felt very exciting, at least to the middle and upper classes.
Some of the Neptune-in-Pisces attributes:
Photography was introduced to the mainstream
Laughing gas and ether anesthetics introduced
Gas lighting introduced
First World's Fair
The gold rush
Darwin publish "Origin of Species"
Theater and the arts flourished
The Victorian era was known for romanticism and mysticism:
"Another form of entertainment involved 'spectacles' where paranormal events, such as mesmerism, communication with the dead (by way of mediumship or channelling), ghost conjuring and the like, were carried out to the delight of crowds and participants. Such activities were more popular at this time than in other periods of recent Western history."

"Spiritualists often set March 31, 1848, as the beginning of their movement. On that date, Kate and Margaret Fox, of Hydesville, New York, reported that they had made contact with a spirit. What made this an extraordinary event was that the spirit communicated through rapping noises, audible to onlookers. The evidence of the senses appealed to practically minded Americans, and the Fox sisters became a sensation. However, the Fox Sisters later admitted that this "contact" with the spirit was a hoax. Shortly afterward they recanted that admission."

Twilight ~ Very interesting post! I'm always interested in the charts of mystics, psychics, mediums, poets.
ReplyDeleteDid you happen to notice how the first three fellows all have Moon-Neptune contacts? Philippe and Lancelin (the "healers") both have Moon in Gemini square Neptune in Pisces, while Burgoyne has Moon conjunct Neptune in Pisces.
My Moon squares Neptune, and I've always thought it contributed to some of my gifts - I know it makes me more porous and sensitive. Mercury (and/or Gemini) seems to play a role in helping sensitives to communicate the information being received - or maybe to interpret/misinterpret the information as it gets filtered through the intellect.
In looking at the chart of the last person, Stanislas de Guaita (the poet and occultist), I wonder if I'm missing something? I don't see Neptune close to his Ascendant.
A biggie in science occurred about this time, too...Louis Pasteur and germ theory. The nano-world of organisms...the unseen...fits Neptune.
ReplyDelete"Pasteur's research also showed that the growth of micro-organisms was responsible for spoiling beverages, such as beer, wine and milk. With this established, he invented a process in which liquids such as milk were heated to kill most bacteria and moulds already present within them. Claude Bernard and he completed the first test on April 20, 1862. This process was soon afterwards known as pasteurization.
Beverage contamination led Pasteur to the idea that micro-organisms infecting animals and humans cause disease. He proposed preventing the entry of micro-organisms into the human body, leading Joseph Lister to develop antiseptic methods in surgery."
[I realize that you're showcasing individuals with Neptune in Pisces, but just thought I'd add some events of this era.]
The Pasteur quote is from Wiki:

mike ~ Good point about Uranus and Pluto - they'd "tilled and fertilised the Pisces ground" ready for Neptune. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional information - yes the Victorian period was rife with all that mystical and magical stuff. Theosophy too was in its heyday.
LB ~ Yes there are other relevant aspects within the charts, as you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the last of the four men, Stanislas - Neptune wasn't very close to the ascendant in his case, but actually on cusp of 11th/12th houses - so it's a near miss, but interesting because of his background :-)
mike (again) ~ Yes - it's all good and relevant....thank you!
ReplyDeletemike & LB ~ We're perhaps too early into this Nep/Pis transit to notice anything that could be seen as even vaguely along the same lines as that 19th century version. The technology we see all around, the gadgets, the social-networking etc relates more to Uranus, though I suppose the end result could be more Neptunian : glassy-eyed gazing into a smartphone or Facebook dream worlds?
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see something globally more truly Neptunian, really really mysterious, perhaps kicked-off by some unexplainable event such as has never been seen before, ever.
Me too, Twilight.:) I'd love to see, experience and be a part of something deeply loving, spiritual, mystical, ethical and transformative. I am now (as are you), but I think I know what you mean. I'm always hungry for more.
ReplyDeleteBeing as sensitive as I am, I have amazing experiences all the time, something I'm very grateful for, though to be honest some experiences *seem* more meaningful than others. Just today while I was speaking with a service rep from our cable company, I asked him if it was his 23rd birthday (it was) and if he'd be receiving a dog as a gift, which he was -a Siberian Huskey, from his mother. He didn't quite know what to make of me.:0
On the other hand, spirituality *strictly* as a form of escape or entertainment generally rubs me the wrong way. It also bothers me when people charge outrageous amounts for their spiritual gifts.
LB ~ Oh my! I bet he was shocked.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say what you said in your last line - it kind of applies in an oblique way to the notice I've just now added at the top of my sidebar. "Gifts" in this case was a physical gift - birthday present to me from husband, which I chose, but it didn't arrive. In spite of several attempts to contact - nothing.
We've told Paypal - no response so far, but just today I searched the net and found a lot of other complaints about the site, indicating that it is a complete scam - nobody has ever received anything - at least not since 2006 - maybe even before that. Yet Paypal leaves it's facility on the website!!!
Well, Twilight, you received an unpleasant "gift" for your birthday! Sorry it happened, but the vultures abound...and always have been part of our world. Deceit and deception...very Neptunian.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy some excitement, but not of the bad kind...something rather magical, other worldly, and enlightening. An event that will embarrass most of us for being so self-centered and materialistic. Something that will make me feel as if I'm part of a fantasy novel that I can't put down. Something that wakes us from this deep slumber.
But...back to reality...LOL
Twilight ~ Oh, I'm so sorry! How disappointing on so many levels. I'm very uneasy when it comes to handling things over the internet - always have been. Maybe it's been a blessing.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't a dog your husband tried to order for you, was it(?) - LOL! Or a statue or sculpture?
I agree with mike - whatever positives Neptune in Pisces may bring, we can be certain there will also be delusion, deception and disappointment.
Have you been reading about Obamacare here in California? So far, it's turned out to be *much* worse than even I imagined - and it's not just the high deductibles and copays (which I expected), what's most disturbing is how difficult, if not impossible it is to find a doctor (let alone a specialist), even in urban areas: http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/02/19/covered-california-enrollees-complain-about-limited-doctor-choices-nearby/
My husband and I, along with many other Californians, researched our options as best we could, but how could we have anticipated this bait and switch?
Henry Reid seems unaware - I'm wondering if anyone else will have the moral courage to speak up and say the Emperor is naked.
mike ~ Enlightenment, in the truest sense of the word (and not in a New Agey way) is something we'd all benefit from. I hope you get your wish.:)
Hey, LB...in so many ways, this life I'm living IS enlightening in the old and new sense of the word! As kooky-balooky as everything in the outer world seems, my little world is humming along nicely. It's comforting-discomforting to be part of this era...sort of like the "may you live in interesting times" adage. We are all exactly where we should be,I fear. BTW, you and Twilight are performing wonderfully in my world...sorry I can't give you two speaking roles.
ReplyDeleteThanks, mike. The feeling is mutual.:) Maybe next life, we'll all be friends and neighbors.
ReplyDeletemike ~ Thanks - yes, very Neptunian. I now have some idea what to expect during the next few weeks as Neptune transits natal Jupiter! Or maybe this'll be all I get - hope so!
ReplyDeleteLB ~ Thanks - no not a dog or statue - LOL. I should've said "material" instead of physical I guess. It was a small silver pendant.
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised that Obamacare isn't living up to expectations. Some will benefit, but others will not - that's not how it ought to be.
I hope you will manage to sort out a decent plan where you don't lose too much, for you and Mr. LB.
I glimpsed the Emperor's nakedness some years ago. Not a pretty sight - I've thought he was very, very Neptunian in "feel" from soon after 2008.
mike ~ Ditto to what LB wrote - or maybe in a past life we were colleagues or friends, or both. :-)
ReplyDeletemike & LB ~ UPDATE re the birthday gift debacle - Paypal has refunded my husband! It took at least 3 tries, and referring them to a list of earlier complaints dating from 2007, but eventually - success!
ReplyDeleteI'd better adjust the "Beware" notice in the sidebar and exclude mention of Paypal.
