April's Dark Days

Yet another tragedy has to be added to April's list for the USA: the terrible explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, near Waco, Texas last night. It'd be insensitive to seek to lay blame at this point, when many families are devastated by loss of lives, injury, loss of homes, school, jobs. There'll be time enough to talk about regulation, negligence, zoning, or lack of it in due course. Enough today to send thoughts, condolences, heartfelt wishes for peace of mind, and return to health and normality as soon as possible to everyone in the affected area.

As I've mentioned before, the month of April has a dark reputation in the USA

Lincoln assassinated: April 14, 1865.
Texas City, TX explosion, April 16,1947.
MLK assassinated: April 4, 1968.
The Waco seige, April 19, 1993.
Oklahoma City bombing, April 19, 1995.
Unabomber's last victim killed: April 24, 1995.
Columbine, April 20, 1999.
Virginia Tech shooting, April 16,2007.
BP oil spill, April 20, 2010.
SF Earthquake, April 18, 1906.
Boston Marathon bombs, April 15.
West, Texas explosion, April 17.

I've searched before, too, for some astrological explanation. It smacks of Fixed Star Algol, but that particular star of ill repute is not involved in the USA chart. There are, in fact, no planets in Aries or Taurus in the US chart. Asteroid Chiron is the only likely clue - it sits at around 20 degrees of Aries - opposite Saturn at 14 Libra. I don't know enough about Chiron, especially in relation to mundane charts, to draw a conclusion from that placement, but it's the only likely astrological explanation I can spot. Anyone out there have ideas?

  1. sad for all those events and the lives they touched with grief.

april is such a beautiful month is so many ways. everything is growing, budding and getting green.

I am trying to hold tight to the fact that long before the dust cleared in boston, so many ran into the horror to help, seemingly unconcerned about their own safety..
    Bless them, every single one.

  2. Sonny ~~ Events reflect exactly the opposite of everything April is meant to stand for - yes.

First responders and ordinary bystanders running to help show that human nature is still not entirely rotten. Several voluntary firefighters in Texas lost their lives too - so very sad. Such men, as well as regular firefighters risk their lives each time they attend a fire, yet they get little praise when compared to that heaped on the US military at every turn.

  3. It is so terribly sad and unnecessary . . . these things we humans do to one another. The initial blasts were only the beginning; there are still many challenges to be faced and on many different fronts - emotional, spiritual, physical, economic.

Situations like this often bring out the best in us - some of the stories emerging are pretty inspiring! If only we could maintain and enlarge the impulse to help in practical ways once the excitement dies down.

I'm not an astrologer, but I've also wondered why late April pops up so often when tragic events are involved. In the U.S. chart, I notice the Vertex/Anti Vertex axis is squared during late April, so this may contribute to the types of events (violent, sudden, explosive), as well as the 'fated' quality. In the United State's natal chart, the Anti-Vertex is conjunct natal Pluto in Capricorn in the 2nd and is opposite the Vertex (and Part of Fortune) in Cancer in the 8th. Both form a square to natal Chiron in Aries in the 4th.

  4. LB ~ Agreed. We're getting one thing after another just now, I hope none of it gets lost in the mix. There's also the matter of the Senate not passing background checks legislation yesterday too. :-(
Took our minds of North Korea for a while, and that danged chained CPI business.

Well spotted, LB! I hadn't calculated the Vertex axis for the US chart, but have just brought up a new version with it included. In Aries, according to my software, there's Chiron, Part of Fortune and Vertex between 20 and 24 Aries, squaring Pluto/Moon. (I use 2 July 1776 - Armistead chart - gotta be different don't I?)
    Fateful indeed!

  5. Twilight - So the Vertex/Anti-Vertex axis in in aspect to Pluto and Chiron in both charts. I used July 4.:)

  6. What's happening (or not happening) in politics right now will very likely have a major impact on some of the survivors of these tragedies. Long after the dust settles and our political leaders have stopped holding press conferences, there will be hospital bills to pay, homes to rebuild and jobs and safety nets lost. "There but for the grace of God, go I."

  7. LB ~ I'm pretty sure that's the case especially as we've come to the same conclusion - always a bit wary of being certain on such matters in case a real live professional astrologer comes and bites my/our head(s) off. ;-)

  8. LB ~~ Oh goodness, yes! Hospital bills, rebuilding homes, and finding replacement jobs - major, major issues. Government might help initially, I hope; and maybe funds will be set up - but in the long term government policies as they are now, and likely will be for some time to come, will work against those struggling to rebuild their lives.
