Thanks for reminding me.
I've always preferred "Land of Hope & Glory" to the National Anthem - although even that's a bit imperialistic ("wider still and wider" etc...) I got a surprise when attending graduations of my husbands grandsons to hear the same Elgar's music played as part of the occasion - apparently it's a tradition - though different lyrics, of course.

Cheek!! ;-)Twilighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14138621610593773784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16659850.post-56169026558654895692010-10-26T07:17:27.374-05:002010-10-26T07:17:27.374-05:00I believed that "God Save the Queen" has...I believed that "God Save the Queen" has a verse about rebellious Scots, which should have been deleted when England and Scotland joined forces but which mysteriously remained.

However, wikipedia says that version is not used any more.

So I will believe their very long version of the tale.Vanilla Rosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07946634138308342764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16659850.post-63146110754376399342010-10-20T14:28:12.972-05:002010-10-20T14:28:12.972-05:00RJ Adams ~~~ Well I can understand your sentiments...RJ Adams ~~~ Well I can understand your sentiments, RJ and WWW.

I don't get chills I get f...in' mad and want to throw things.Twilighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14138621610593773784noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16659850.post-54326202738083438652010-10-20T11:04:35.807-05:002010-10-20T11:04:35.807-05:00I have little to add. I don't see God blessing America or anywhere else for that matter.
XO
WWW

October 16, 2010 1:32 PM

My response ~~~

Agreed WWW ! In the UK the national anthem pleads "God save our gracious queen/king" etc, but the Prime Minister and politicians there don't ever, to my knowledge, end their speeches with "God Bless Britain". TSK!....We "elect" presidents and PMs to "bless" their countries with their great wisdom, comapssion and experience (sarcasm here). Some chance!!!Twilighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14138621610593773784noreply@blogger.com
